WTKK

Lack of promotion. If people don't know your station is there, they won't necessarily tune in. I think it's a problem for many stations around here. I don't see as many billboards ads for radio stations that I used to.

I also don't know what the balance of local talk is on 'TKK, I admit I don't listen to them the way I used to, but I think local radio works, better than syndication. There are exceptions that prove the rule, like Howard on 'BCN before he went to Sirius.

WBCN never bought TV, print or billboard to promote Howard when he used to rack up 20-share in AMD. The word of mouth is the best promotion for any business.

From top to bottom, WTKK is not good local talk. There's nothing compelling or remotely magnetic about their current personalities. WRKO is even worse now that they lost Reese.

BCN didn't need to promote Howard, he came with his own TV show and promotion machine. He was, in case you hadn't heard, King of All Media, after all. ::)

Having seen most of the TKK air staff, I can't imagine seeing their faces on a huge billboard would help. Does Imus do anything for them in the morning or, as I suspect, is his day long over. And how much can/does the web play into promoting a radio station. I notice EEI is getting very pro-active about it, but other than guessing; is there any proof yet that it might pay off?

What are the ratings at WTKK? I mean the real ones, 25-54? How are they doing compared to WRKO or WBZ in the only ratings that matter?

I go along with the consensus that the shows aren't very good. They were counting on having Howie this year. But they screwed it up themselves by cutting back on the national syndicated shows in a year when there was more interest in national news. Cut back and eventually eliminate Sean Hannitty, Bill O'Reilly and then Laura Ingraham when you don't replace it with anything good and is it any wonder the station finds itself where they are right now?

I'll agree that WTKK isn't as good as Howie when it comes to local talk. Howie knows Boston/state politics thoroughly. For his dull conversational style and his background, I'll admit that even Finneran has the "native son" connection. WTKK, though? Michael Graham's good, but he's not from Massachusetts and just can't tie in that way. Same with Severin. I don't listen to Jim and Margery not because they're liberal, but because they're arrogant snobs and I can't stand condescension--from libs or conservatives. Michele McPhee may be local, but she's a terrible host.

I would say it's because besides Jim and Margery most of the other hosts are right wing and unlistenable

I think Severin sounds very arrogant. I feel like he talks way above the people that listen. He's a turn off.

Lol why would you think Jay sounded arrogant?.... I managed major campaigns, I was on nation tv shows, I'm always right, ... add in the thin skin and picking of fights and the show just seems to have lost it's mojo. I would listen to Howie every day if his show was on FM. Graham and Carr do local radio well, the rest just seem to be rehashing whats on earlier. I'd rather listen to a decent national show then subpar local talent.

WTKK is more low key and more in line with the NPR style of broadcasting. They are not the political big weight that WRKO is (or used to be.)

Why do you think WTKK's numbers are so low in an election year?

Well, I don't know if I would consider them "so low"?

They're in the top 10 pretty regularly, Severin is in 4th place in the afternoons.

By most people in the industry it's considered pretty sucessful.

Not a Good station .

Great rationale rapking.

How professional is a station that plays an edited version of "The Best of Bill O'Reilly"on Sun Oct 19 and Sun Oct 26(1-3pm) and they're the exact same 2 hours. On both shows they were between the 2nd and 3rd pres. debate discussing what McCain must do in the third debate to expose Obama's weaknesses.Only problem was that the 3rd (and final) debate was almost 2 weeks over and done with. Then I recognized it was the same exact show as the week before!! Ridiculous. ...And to add insult to injury, after the repeat of "O'Reilly" you get Jimmie Myers.....Severin and Graham are so partisan it's hard for me ,as a Republican, to listen to them seriously. They are almost as ridiculously one-sided as MSNBC is on the left.....Michelle Mc Phee is actually the most informed person on the station..... After he gets cleared of his rape charge ,bring back Reese Hopkins and dump Severin,Graham or the ludicrous Rev.Myers.

Amen, I said amen my brother. I didn't even know he's Black until I saw him in the papers, and he did an entertaining show.

McPhee may be the best host in town, but I can't stand her voice for long enough to discern that.

Jay is arrogant, but in the way he puts down callers. It's almost like you're in the studio at his side and some goon calls in and you're laughing with him at the caller.
