WTKS gets rid of its evening show

The Clear Channel ax has hit another mark -- WTKS's (104.1) evening show, The Hideout.

Host El Jefe told me he got the news in a meeting two hours ago, where station execs said this was about across-the-board budget-cuts.

Was any announcement made as to a replacement? Seems to just be playing music? Is this the beginning of the end for WTKS as Real Radio?

Shame. I enjoyed that show online, and emailed Clear Channel to put them on XM due to the Ron and Fez connection. Hopefully they'll end up somewhere else soon.

Orlando Sentinel reporting that it is the syndicated Lex and Terry Show (tape delay). Was listening to some audio earlier of the Phillips File, they were commenting 'what if we are next.' Jim replied, you never know around here.

I'm watching a Live video feed of their studio and it's near pitch dark and just music...

...Sad, I liked listening to them when I was over at WTIR 1300.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Lex & Terry a morning show? I guess cheap channel really does not care what happens on the air between 7:00PM & 6:00AM anymore.
WJRR should be next in line to lose someone, if it hasn't happened already.

"Hey, have you heard? I'm doing my morning show... at night!"

i once worked on the real music/cutting edge weekends. one of the best radio gigs i had. so much fun and freedom to mix in the occassional request.

the guy who programmed the music - erik dennison - is still there. i listen to sunday night vinyl on the weekends.

another prime example of clear channel cutting everything in site to make a buck......

What if WTKS aired some (Marlins for example) baseball during the summer and maybe it could snatch some rights from 740 like UCF Basketball.

Wouldn't that be in the station's demo?

Ditto. I did weekends there for a few years, back about a decade ago almost. Loved it. It was a great station all around back then, though. Stern in the morning when he was at his best, Monsters in the Midday before they started believing all their own hype, Philips, who's always been a radio god in Orlando, and Drew Garabo at night, when he had Mandy and Daniel on the show. It's a shame how it's gone down... if it could have just evolved some and replaced the people who left with some talented hosts instead of the crap they've put on, they could still be dominant.
