Utica/Rome WTLB and Galaxy

WTLB is now off the air. The four towers in New Hartford have been torn down. Galaxy has filed for the station to be silent with the FCC. It is a sad ending for what was once a great station. WTLB went full time top 40 in 1957 after changing the call letters from WGAT. The new ownership was the Forman family in Rochester (WBBF). In the mid 60's it was sold to R. Peter Straus and the Straus Broadcasting Group (WMCA). Most familiar would agree that under the Straus ownership it was one of the best sounding stations in America. Both programing and technically wise. Galaxy has sold the property, presumably to pay down debt.
