WTLB Tribute page on Facebook

There is now a tribute page for WTLB on Facebook. Just go to the main page and type in WTLB in search. There are vintage photos, airchecks, and jingles. Budd Yeman has done a great job on this site.
For those of you that don't know about the history of WTLB: It was one of the first stations to play top 40 music full time. DJ's in the late 50's and early 60's we known to go directly from there to major markets. The Forman family from Rochester (WBBF) bought WGAT and switched formats and calls. TLB was always more progressive sounding than WBBF. In the early days WTLB didn't daypart. So while BBF was playing Johnny Mathis, WTLB was playing James Brown. In the 60's R. Peter Strauss bought the station and made it a clone of co-owned WMCA -The Home of the Good Guys. Top sounding jocks and a top notch news dept. WTLB has had a great history and nobody ever got more out of 1,000 daytime & 500 watts directional night.

Dave Doughty had the best audio on the dial anywhere in the state on AM. In fact, the only stations you could hear that were even close: CKLW and WCFL in the early 70s. In the early 70s, WTLB sounded incredibly good, and much larger than the rest of the market.
