WTLX and WTTN on the move!

From NorthPine.com...

Good Karma wants to wants to change it's WTLX/100.5 (Columbus) city of license to Monona, which is right next to Madison. But first, they have to change the city of license of WTTN/1580 from Watertown to Columbus.

They've been trying to do that for a long time. The WTTN move is basically murder. I heard they would have to lower the power.
______________

WTTN is the sacrifical lamb to allow WTLX to get a better signal to Madison. It's all because of the FCC's strange rulemaking process, which pretends that stations primarily serve their community of license and that moving the license would always be a loss to the community.

In reality, WTLX Columbus already targets Madison, er, Monona. Watertown will lose its only real local radio station, WTTN, to Columbus. That's OK under FCC rules because WJJO/94.1 will remain licensed to Watertown, though it's really a Madison station.

The original application to move to Columbus does call for a power reduction from 1,000 watts to 470. However, that application was later amended to add a second tower (going directional) and actually *increase* daytime power to 1,500 watts.

Either way, the tower site would be just off Hwy. 60 between Columbus and Arlington and wouldn't provide much signal to Watertown anymore.

From that site there would be *some* signal across Madison for the AM station. I wonder if they plan a Madison-oriented format for that signal as well?

If WTLX does change to Monona, depending on tower placement, would they be able to upgrade from class A to C3? I know 100.7 Racine would have to be protected, but what else?
______________

Madison isn't a Class C market. But in that area, a C3 is also known as B1.
