WTMT 105.9 Testing

I am curious as well... I have been playing around with all kinds of possible names, but nothing ;D Guess I have to much time on my hands LOL... I did try hot 1059 and got a site that came back as saying something like site not ready, but that could be a whole different market... Has anybody been paying attention to processing, loudness, those little things... If they are hard on a lot of thump low end and bass then it may be a hip hop or CHR! if it is loud and balls to the wall chances it will be rock... If it is kinda mellow on the processing then we may be looking at AAA, but that is just fun guessing... CC1
 
I listened to 105.9 on Friday, May 25. They were playing a mix of classic hits, interspersed with rock and some jazz. I kinda doubt what I heard was the final format, but who knows? Maybe they were testing some songs and set styles that we will hear when they officially debut.

The signal was a bit multipathed on Tunnel Road. I was listening on a 2005 Dodge radio in my Grand Caravan (it's not the best radio in the world, you know) but they had quite a bit of flutter in several spots, especially down towards Best Buy, Walgreens and over to Target. It wasn't unlistenable, but it sounded "non-local" in a few spots. I looked at the tower location in radio-locator.com. It's just inside of Madison County, but I don't know the exact tower location. Just a quick eyeballing of the site tells me that Beaucatcher Mountain may cause the station some problems in the southeastern section of the Asheville market.

The signal was pretty bad in Hot Springs today, pretty much unlistenable, was ok by the time I was near Madison High.They are playing a wide mix of music from country to disco to jazz, but I have yet to hear any kind of ID, and I've been listening off and on for several days
 
I heard them pretty solid in Spartanburg and Cowpens are, also head them say 105.9 the Lazer!.......still WTMT on the display of my HD Radio.
 
I would not be at all surprised if "The Lazer" deal was nothing more than stunting! It is very difficult to get excited about any of it with radio in general being so boring, and predictable! I can imagine another jukebox!

Jukebox is about all anybody wants to do on radio anymore, and I am sick of it. If all I am going to get ia music and commercials, I will choose my CD player, so that I can choose my own music and have NO commercials.

Sorry radio managers, consultants, and program directors, Give me something else if you want me to listen to your commercials.

It's almost scarey that we think that much alike. What you said is almost exactly like what I've told my wife. If all I want to hear is tunes with no personality in between 'em, I'll listen to a CD. Aside from providing public service (disaster announcements, etc), without some personality and pizzazz, radio's whole existence is totally pointless.
 
After listening to the WLS Rewind on Monday, it really made it very clear just how bad radio has gotten!
 
I'll take this opportunity to say I plan to go to the mountains next week, and I'll be sure and give this station a try. I'll see if I can pick it up in my motel room.
 
WTMT has a fair signal around Morganton, but WOXL comes in a bit better. I have to wonder if Saga would pursue consolidating tower sites? If it were mine, I would certainly explore the cost savings of having two FMs at one site. Of course, there may be FCC issues like spacing that may restrict both WOXL and WTMT to their present locations.

It was once my understanding that as soon as the WAGI tower site move took place, WTMT could then move to the WOXL tower. I'm not sure if this is still the plan, but it would make lots of sense.
