I was noticing that they are adding more CHR songs to their playlist. And I saw a rhymatic song or two on yes.com When did this start to change for them?? Are they also going to compete with Kiss and others. I know this is random but i was just curious. Is that good or bad? Thoughts?

I've noticed this for awhile as well. It looks like they are sounding more like an "authentic" Adult Top 40 station than the modern leaning AC they've been for all of these years. They have slowly been adding more CHR crossover songs to their playlist the last couple of years, but they really seemed to boost the number of rhythmic songs as of late, which is a good thing in my opinion because their modern AC sound has started to sound stale as of late due to the lack of a large number of new "alternative lite" artists in recent years.

I think the boost in rhythmic songs was propelled by competition in the market, but also as a reflection of trends nationally within the Hot AC format. I think the rhythmic trend is just a matter of what the 25-44 female listener wants to hear these days. And as stated before, because of this, the Hot AC format now sounds more like a true CHR format for adults who are tired of the hardcore hip-hop and rap that has polluted mainstream CHR stations across the country. Now we have a format that sounds like a true CHR format, a format that plays many different genres of music like it was intended to do.

Just one other observation on the Mix. I find it curious with all of the rtythmic product they are playing lately that they for some reason never added "U + Ur Hand" by Pink, despite being a top 5 smash on the Hot AC format! Just an interesting observation. :)

Given the Mormon church's attitudes towards "self-love", it's obvious why "U + Ur Hand" never made the cut. "The elders" would have never allowed it.

A True CHR would definitely play some Hip Hop titles. Hell, you have Rhythmic A/Cs playing Hip Hop titles so appearantly some adults aren't turned off by it. This is especially true in a BIG city like Chicago. A true CHR would also be very focused on Currents and Recurrents, and would not be playing 80s and even 70s cuts like Mix 101.9 does.
In conclusion, Chicago already has a CHR/Pop station called 103.5 Kiss FM. It's a CHR that truly caters to 18-34 year old women, and as is often the case in the bigger cities it has a Rhythmic lean (as do the CHR/Pop charts).
