WTMY - Where the sun seems to always shine.

Did you see the ratings? Little WTMY pulled great numbers after not being on the radar for years. Afternoons - #1 talker. Mid- days - #1 Talker. WLSS - Clear Channel with only syndicated programming watch out!!!! I love it!!!! 1220 was nowhere to be found. Local Talk rules! Let that be a lesson to all the station groups that pulled the plug on local programming.

This is starting to sound like promotional trolling.

The 12+ spring 10 numbers for Sarasota-Bradenton (hosted on Radio-Info) show WTMY with a 0.5 share -- granted, better than not making the book at all, which is what they usually do, but only good enough for a tie for 29th place -- trailing WFLA, WLSS, WENG, and WCCF -- all talkers.

This board has had its share of touters of S-B brokered radio before, including one fellow who used to write in ALL CAPS to urge people to buy time. There was also the case, years ago, of a tinkered-with app from Radio and Records on another brokered AM's website to make it look like their 0.5 made them the number three station in the market! R&R must have found out... that app disappeared after a short time.

No promotional trolling here. I love radio. I have for 30 years and I follow it where ever I am. I have seen the ups and downs and when I see the up part I always comment on it.

As for the ratings...You must not have access to the numbers. Who uses the 12+ numbers for stations for anything other than station rankings? Oh yeah - those that can't look at the book. Advertisers use daypart rankings. I know that becuase I am a regional buyer for a national advertisieer. We get the book and out of the blue I see some real value in afternoons and mid days on little WTMY. Where did I move my $$$ from? - I am happy to say I took it from my Clear Channel buys.

As for the brokered comment...I find it interesting that brokered time used by the big boys is acceptable but not for the little guy. I saw some of that criticism earlier on the boards and did some checking. While mornings are brokered - and that is a really bad thing - afternoons are not - and that is a good thing. I see more buys in the future for WTMY and that is not promotional trolling.

I don't have a dog in this fight but I must comment...I went up to Orlando over the weekend ( up Sat back Sun ) and listened to WTMY both ways as long as I could. They have got to be running better than 100 watts as I got it from South of Venice to North of Bradenton. I was impressed. On the way up I heard a great show for Seniors that appears to air for an hour and a half or so Monday through Saturday. The guest was talking about transportation issues etc,,very well done,,very professional interviewer. Meanwhile, 1220 had a ball game on,,not a fan of baseball on the radio,,Tan talk had some old fella doing a big band show and 1450 was having technical troubles and had no bass at all.

On the way back I caught Tom Lykuss doing a wine show that was very well produced and held your interest. 1220 was doing sports again, Tan talk was talking some preacher and 1450 was still having audio problems with no bass and very low modulation.

I don't know about the ratings behond 12+ ofcourse, but I'd say for anyone who loves talk radio but hates all politics all the time this is an excellent station,,,sounds good too. Kind of like 1490 in Brandenton used to sound,,BTW they were Spanish both days.

It's BRADENTON, not Brandonton..

That would be "The Tasting Room," a syndicated show that Leykis first developed as an extracurricular program secondary to his now-defunct daily show. Did you know Tom actually sells some of the advertising for his wine show through eBay?
