jm: why don't you provide some ranges of salaries of what gm's make? as you're the expert, should be easy. no need to be snippy with someone asking a question.
No one was being "snippy" as you put it. Apparently you are mistakenly interpreting my directness as being unfriendly. It isn't intended to be as such. However I believe you desreve a brief explanation. I'm a very direct and "too the point" individual as this is a huge part of my overall persona, and I don't believe in wasting time on trivial matters. If that seems "cold" to you, then I humbly apologize in advance.
As for my "expertise", I have no idea what WTMY is paying its GM; Hence the reason I suggested the person interested apply for the job if that person has an interest in becoming the WTMY GM. Otherwise it is irrelevant that any of us know the GM's salary, especially considering that information is considered confidential by a station owner. I'm speaking as a former GM and former station owner on that matter.
With that said, no one really evers knows anything for certain, including GM salaries, until one asks the correct questions from the correct source. I had suggested this person asking the question to go directly to the source - The Station, hence helping him or her to get a more accurate answer to their question. This is a highly reasonable suggestion that should the person in question decide to implement will greatly reduce any chance for error in obtaining a more accurate answer. They may even end up with a new career as GM of WTMY, but it WILL NOT happen unless they go to the source and ask.
However, to further expound, if the owner or other WTMY decision maker is reading this thread, I serious doubt said person will publicly publish any station salaries on this Board. I certainly would not publicize that information if it were me in charge of any station in question.
As per your inquiry relating to what are the GM salary ranges, that varies greatly depending on market size, type facility (AM or FM), stand-alone verses a cluster and so on. It also depends on existing cash flow at the time of the salary negotiations as well as whatever else a prospective GM and a licensee may agree upon, largely encompassing a base salary, goal setting bonuses, overrides, personal commissions and the like.
I trust the above answers your question(s) to your satisfaction.
