WTNH Goes Where No Other News Crew Will Go

The station that knows no bounds in getting the story.

WTNH Van on another mission

Funny thing is I haven't see this as a Report It feature ... yet!

This photo was forwarded to me and as such I can't take credit for it, but I have to give the photographer a high five on this one!

Instead of making fun of the accident, you should be concerned about how the people in the truck are doing/were doing after the accident. I am surprised that the vultures at TVSpy haven't picked up on this yet. I hope whoever was in the live truck were OK after the accident.

Come on! How newsworthy can it be? Not even WTNH themselves reported it (guess their Report It feature didn't work). If somebody got injured don't you think they would have said something.

Besides, that was minor league compared to real horror stories. I saw the aftermath of a TV ENG van that got barbecued when the operator failed to observe the power lines above the vehicle BEFORE raising the microwave antenna on the telescopic mast. Now there was real concern of people getting hurt, electrocuted or burned.

Was this accident covered by any other stations (WFSB, WVIT, or WTIC)? If not, that surprises me.

I have seen videos of masts of live trucks being raised into power lines....very scary to see knowing the consequences.

Remember the photo of the live truck from the Milwaukee CBS affiliate that was driven into a frozen pond? I believe the person driving the truck thought it was an icy road covered with snow...instead of a frozen pond.

I don't think I've seen the live truck into the frozen pond. I assume they didn't get too far before the inevitable happened.

I've only been part of a live truck crew twice in my life and both instances everything above was open air as well as having daylight. I always think of that disaster when I see a news crew with a telescopic mast.
