WTNH refreshes news imaging

It started around awhile ago with a few new graphics, now is seems teh've updated their graphics and news imaging music as well. Of course, they still have staff who can't pronounce certain words to save their backside.

Sounds like the equivalent of putting lipstick on a pig, doesn't it?

Who might you be talking about? I have my own ideas :)
Having said that, I like the new imaging, etc. and there are some people on there I like a lot. Though, there are others I do not. I guess being in New Haven, it's force of habit that I watch Channel 8.

Are they really THAT bad though?

These guys can take a lesson from Cablevision! News 12 Connecticut is much more polished along with with the fact they have staff that actually prepares for newscasts and can pronounce words correctly and with regularity. In my office down county I have Cablevision and watch their news presentation on a regular basis. They put 8 to shame!

I still like my old idea that Cablevision should be running a nightly newscast on a terrestrial station, like Channel 43 - I think it would give 8 a run for the money. As far as I'm concerned Cablevision's news is the Ferrari to WTNH's Yugo (or should that be Pinto?)

Wow, I suggested in a passive way that since they did their weather graphics, they should do their whole design, and they did. That's odd, but they really needed an update. I hated the logo that kept turning. The color scheme was worn out too. It looked like a middle school student put the graphics together. Now it looks great. However, I still don't care for the time clock above the logo. It doesn't fit.

The 8 looks a little different. Also with the 8 logo the word channel goes away for a while and wtnh.com comes up, this goes back and fourth. Im surprised they went with blue as Channel 3 has blue. Guess 8 needed to be a copy cat.

Channel 8's colors were blue LONG before Channel 3's.

I noticed this too, but if you think about it, they're promoting their broadcast "channel", and when that graphic goes away, they're promoting their website "wtnh.com" which just goes to show you the line is beginning to blur between TV and the internet.

NewsChannel 8 has been using blue and silver/white since they switched from the ActionNews brand in the 90s! This updated color scheme is actually a return to what they originally had when the new NewsChannel 8 debuted. Channel 3 has only been using these colors for a few years now. If I had more time, I'd dig up some old screen shots to show you.

I actually like the new graphics they're using, in addition to the music. But I don't think Channel 8 is as bad as some people claim. They've had their share of problems recently, but they've taken care of a lot of the technical problems (FINALLY!), and I think things at WTNH are stablizing. People are actually sticking around for much longer, and I believe it's the familiar faces that keep people watching, at least that's how I feel.

NBC30 is the one going down the tubes now. Every day, a different person gone, and always another less-than-stellar newbie showing up. Maybe things will clear up after they settle into their new building. While I'm at it, FOX61 could use an update or two, but I think things are looking up for them. Not only are they the only Hartford-area station still headquartered in the city of Hartford, they're debuting a new morning show this spring. They have a lot going for them, and the potential is there to give the rest of the market a run for their money. Finally, I think WFSB has turned into a maginificent station. I don't know what goes on behind the scenes, but the person(s) running the show is doing one heck of a job. Everything at that station, at least on-the-air, seems perfect. The personalities all get along, they're fun to watch, they do a lot for the community, and they're all very professional, yet not stuffy/politically-correct like you see at the network level. Their Christmas Concert was a riot, and their Connecticut Home show is like no other in this market. Living in SWCT I'll probably always be a loyal Channel 8 viewer, but I like to use my remote-control to switch back and forth, and Channel 3 has also won me over.
