Who is running the station. Is still Spanish but "topicale". I don't hear announcers, only music.
???

Well they are part of the Que Pasa radio network ... but I am not sure if that is the corporate owner as well. Me, I wouldn't know the difference beween "Topicale" and Regional Mexican hits. I am not a spanish radio listener.

Maybe you can shed some light on the spanish radio listener ... census shows the spanish population to be fairly young (under 34) ... but looking at the WGBT 94.5 LaPreciosa website it comes across as a spanish oldies station (I am judging by the pictures of the artists as I don't read spanish). Why didn't they make 94.5 Topicale or mexican Hits?

BTW, welcome to the board. Thanks for the insightful topics and information.

I'll second that! I would really like to know more about Spanish radio. I do know that Que Pasa is seen as more of an informational station and La Preciosa is Oldies music. But, I don't really know what age groups listen to what. Do young Hispanics like any of our other radio stations here? Like WKZL 107.5? Would really appreciate any information you can give us. Thanks.

The latest data that I have about the Hispanic population in the "Triad Metro" area is around 77,000. The largest demo is fairly young, 27 years old. There is a large percent of younger families and this will keep growing. It is a Hispanic "thing" to get married and have children. About 71 percent of the population is from Mexico. The second largest group is from Colombia, about 5%. Just remember Hispanic it isn't a race. You have black, oriental, brown and yes you have some blonde blue eyes Hispanics. Their cultures are the same way.... very different. Que Pasa used to rent two frequencies in the Triad 1380, 1470, and they owned 1590. They returned 1380 and 1470.

La movidita rents 1040. Since Que Pasa returned 1380 and 1470 (my guess is that Davidson didn't have anyone else to run these stations) movidita got them. I think as a business it was the foolish decision, since the coverage of these two are very much covered under 1040. The only thing that he could win was a little of night coverage, which in "am" radio is silly.

Since the change, 1380 has a tropicale format, but I'm not sure who is programming it (very poorly IMHO), but if Que Pasa wasn't able to get it to work, I really doubt that movidita does it.

La preciosa is really Spanish Adult Hits. Music from Mexico, Guatemala, Argentina, Spain, Colombia, Venezuela and more. With 100Kw they cover much more that the Triad. Looking at Arbitron, they have somewhere between 85 - 90% of the Spanish audience.

:)

Thanks. This whole thread has really made me think. I am going to go to Arbitron.com and see if they have any Spanish research projects. I really need to learn more since there are now HDHAs in the market. When the Hispanic SDT started last Spring I knew I needed to learn more, but I've just been to busy trying to keep up with my own stations.

Thanks for all the great info.
