WTOB 1380

Salute to 60's AM Radio - WTOB and WSJS
Winston-Salem, NC

Atelier Studios, located in the arts district of downtown Winston-Salem, NC, is doing a salute to WTOB during 60's weekend at the studio.
The date is scheduled during the First Friday Gallery Hops on May 2 from 7-10 PM. The following day we will continue and add a salute to The Doors from noon until 10 PM. We wrap up the 60's tributes during Arts on Sunday from noon until 4 PM.

We are looking for any of the "good guys" or their families - play lists - the logo - the WTOB jingle or any clips from the air...etc.

We do have some vintage WTOB Good Guys T-shirts and a few other items that we will be wearing or displaying during the evening.

We are planning on spinning the vinyl singles - having go go dancers in the window - doing some body and face painting - and whatever else we can remember (as most of us at the studio were around during that time and remember fondly)

We have invited J R Snider to attend if he can and are looking for any others who might consider attending!

Can anyone to anything that would be good?

The press will also be invited and usually cover our events.

Thanks so much for any info. We loved WTOB. It was a great station.

Sorry, It took so long to answer..Been busy..I don't know of any in existance unless Walker, Spooner, or any of the boys have any..Mine were destroyed in a deal that happened in 1971 when I lost about 6000 reels of tape and over 40,000 records..God, I wish I had all that stuff..Try "Reel Radio.com" I think there may be one on there..I'll see if I can find out some info..

Only thing I know if on Spooner is his "You've Just Been Spoonerized" LP from the WMAK days. I have it digitally.

Too bad there isn't more WTOB stuff at Reel Radio. More WAIR stuff, too, for that matter. I have a couple cassettes that I should transfer to mp3 - recorded by cheap mic off the radio of both stations circa 71-73. Some Daddy-O/Patio on there - but I digress to the competiton.

Loved WTOB.

I grew up near the SR Airport, so the signal never made it to my house after dark (when that wacky directional pattern kicked in). I have fond memories of hearing Bob Dale Russ Spooner and others. I think I have these guys on tape - but again might take a while to find. WTOB used to blast at Mineral Spring swimming pool and from early 16-year-olds car. Good guys, indeed.

I still have several of the weekly printed playlists from mid 70s.

This costs 12 bucks a year, I believe, but everything I have is on this site and you will not be disappointed..There's enough stuff to listen to for the rest of your life! Have Fun! BIG APE!

My 2 year-old daughter is named after The Late George Lee (Bowermaster) from TOB fame.
EmmaLee XXXXX Jenkins (originally to have been Emily).

George died from pancreatic cancer right after she was born.

Listening to old AIR, TOB and SJS tapes on his back porch drinking Budweiser from plastic cups are memories one never forgets.
Rest well, George. I'll catch up with you again one day.
