WTOK Meridian now doing HD news

Pardon the foray into state television news but I got word that WTOK in Meridian has introduced local news in HD. Does anyone in Jackson do HD news? The only other MS station I know of is WTVA Tupelo that's gone HD for local newscasts. Of course, that's not counting the myriad of signals from Memphis, New Orleans and Mobile.

Here is another question. Who is doing HD radio in Meridian & Jackson.

WLBT WDBD WJTV all do news in HD. However some of the news tape is in SD often in either stretch-o-vision or "squeeze-0-vision" most everything WLBT and WDBD tapes themselves is HD. Last I checked WAPT news is still in SD. Promos for the news and commercials are HD. WUFX gets their news from WDBD and WUFX has never converted to HD. the entire station is 480i and they apparently have not desire to ever go HD. Same with WRBJ CW 34. That station is actually HD at the transmitter. But all programming is being sent out in crappy old standard def. to make matters worse since CW34 is 16x9 and programming will is SD, you will get "windowboxing" over the air with black bars on all 4 sides. Assuming the program is in SD at the CW network, you will have something that looks like a tiny 4:3 youtube video in the middle of the screen. It's been that way since day one. Which is on reason why I seldom watch CW 34. Does either of these stations broadcast in HD on cable or is the cable company simply zooming in on the center?

As far as I know only MPB has HD in both cities. MPB's HD implementation has been pretty robust in my experience. I used to get reliable (still) reception at 45-50 miles on several of the transmitters.

Jackson only has one other HD station that I'm aware of, WJSU at 88.5. Their HD coverage is tiny but it worked really well last time I was there. None of the commercial stations have converted; it's too bad, Jackson would probably be a decent market for HD because of the closeness and height of the radio sites. Then again, Jackson was slow to take on RDS, too. It's just a slow to adapt market, I guess.

HD radio in Meridian? You must be joking. Actually, HD radio itself is a joke.

Actually HD radio in Meridian with MPB is a pretty good service with the Classical Music service. Since the Transmitter is at Rose Hill I can get the HD signal most of the time but it is in the living room of my house where we get the best reception And I am in Forest.
