WTQR ain't as good as it once was

On a commercial for the station, Toby Keith sings, "I ain't as good as I once was." Then, to offer proof, Carrie Underwood sings a line from "Before He Cheats" and Rascal Flatts sings the words "Life Is a Highway."

Heard it this morning. BAD. The computer was bad. The old D/C automation from 30 yrs ago was better that this crap. Sad how stations get destroyed :( It's all the evil CC

Let me back up on that for a second.
It might have been WRDU doing that commercial, since they like WTQR are Clear Channel-owned, but then again, I can't remember seeing any other Rooster commercials besides John Boy & Billy. And "ain't as good as I once was" would have stuck out if it was a WRDU commecial to me too, I think I would have noticed if it was based on that. So I still think it was WQDR, but it might not have been.

So how many threads will be created saying how bad TQR is? Seriously, we get it. We don't need to rehash it every time the topic gets bumped off of page one. Every one of them is similar to "wow, TQR used to be SO great. Now they're not. (insert CC insult or parallel to communism) I miss the old days"

zzzzzzzzzzzzz

but thanks for your opinions!

...don't know that it's fair to equate CC to a communist regime...at least the communists actually care for their own!

You're right. CC is an AWESOME company. I especially love how they're giving all these employees (like Shannon and dozens in LA, Detroit, and Chicago) UNLIMITED, INVOLUNTARY time off just in time for the holidays!

;D I take it Big Ben is a CC employee..I never liked "Hillbilly" Music anyway..I was forced to play it twice in my career..to keep from starving, but all the time I was listening to "RocknRoll" on Channel 2....

CC ain't even close to Communism......much more like Fascism. :D

Only reason CC gets the bad rap is because they are so big. Truth is, all of BIG RADIO is like that! Even some SMALL RADIO is like that. Biggest difference is that the large companies usually offer some sort of severance package and the small ones don't!

Which one have you worked for Josh?? They both stink! BIG APE!

Haven't worked for either (thank God!) ;D But I have friends who have worked for both, and I've heard enough to convince me to stay as far away from them as possible!

once upon a time...but don't get me wrong, I'm no cheerleader for CC. I'm just growing bored of the same old whining about TQR. They're going downhill, we get it. I guess if I'm tired of the same posts, there are other boards to scour. (*spelling)

Big_Ben has a great point. Since many think WTQR is not what it used to be, let's discuss WHY it is not rather than just throw stones. My personal feeling is that radio in general lacks a real relationship with its audience and TQR is one of the many stations that has lost the contact it once had! Those of you know knew the station in its heyday should be able to identify what has changed and which changes cost them the double digits!

It just amazes me that these companies can't see the forest for the trees. In the "good ol days" of even 5,6, or 7 years ago, the PD was actually allowed to PROGRAM the damn radio station. He didn't have to report every single spin or sweeper or promotion or positioning statement to the Sales MAnager, the Promo Mgr, the Ops Mgr, the GM, the Regional VP of Dumbshit, brand manager or whatever. Hire good people... Let them do their jobs. It seemed for years that CC Greensboro was kind of immune to the idiocy that destroyed great stations at Smoketree. Notsomuch anymore. And CC's not the only one here guilty of this...

On thing that I think has hurt TQR for years is the inability to translate the character of Aunt Eloise into more than just an on-air bit!

They did do a public appearance at North Wikesboro Speedway once - with Aunt Eloise riding in the pace car .. and she did an interview for Roy's Folks once ... but the character is way too limited to build those important relationships with the listeners.

Say what you want, she was a major asset at one time - beginning with Dale and then Big Paul. The mystery is not as strong as it once was.

That said, I am not sure any of the other stations have taken advantage of their morning shows in any better way.

I don't think Aunt Eloise has really cared much in the past few years. That being said...I think it was a huuuuge knee jerk reaction mistake to eliminate most of the personality from the AM Show when the Wolf signed on...
