WTRB in Ripley-1570 AM

Even though I hate country music with a passion, a friend of mine who lives in Ripley frequently keeps on a small country station called 1570 WTRB. The station seems to have more of an old, smalltown radio feel to it. I don't like the music but I applaud what they are doing.

As an alumnus of WTRB who still lives well within their signal area, I still listen to them often. It indeed has a small town feel to it. When I worked there, whenever there was a fire, the fire department would call the station and tell us the location of the fire. Then, when the fire siren would go off, the volunteer firemen knew to tune into the radio staion to find out the location of the fire, so they would know where to go. I understand that the station is struggling because lack of advertiser support and the loss of the longtime GM who has retired because of health reasons. I think it was/is for sale. Some pretty good people have gone thru there, Rusty Reviere who was on WMPS during the Dees era as "Chris" Reviere started his career there, Bill Dotson, who was at WMC during the hayday of country with Aunt Eloise Louise began his career there, and another guy who may have been better than both of those two Henry Fennell (yes he used his real name) started there. Henry now is the manager of the Public Radio station in Nashville.....not to mention my very lackluster career which has lasted over 25 years in the business.

WTRB AM 1570 in Riply is now owned by Goodnews 93.1 and that radio group I think it is called Grace Broadcasting and is out of Jackson,TN

Actually, it is owned by a partnership that INCLUDES one of the partners in Grace Broadcasting.
That partner is operating it but does not have sole ownership.

ok! well at one time I worked for 93.1 at Bells and in Jackson and Bob Faulkner my best buddy was my GM

I haven't heard the station in around a year, does it still use local talent and have live broadcasts? Like I said, I don't like country music but I respect any station that still feels small town.

Live only in the morning. Computer automation the rest of the time...(except for some "Dollar a Hollers" and sports) (games-local football, UT, and Cards)

The guy is pretty good.

the guy IS pretty good.....isn't he? Great p-b-p of Ripley High football too.....
