With all of the talk of WTSH/ South 107, moving to the metro, Lets rate the current staff! Will they stay or will they go?

My vote:

Mornings... Kevin and Kristin. Kevin is a longtimer, I think he is the PD possibly OM , he is a natural talent. And I think he will stay in some fashion. Hopefully on the morning show! As for Kristin, she has a good sound but is a bit boring and usually very sleepy sounding. She needs to perk up! and stop being so hokey!

Mid-days Rick Bradley holds down those hours. He is good, and has a very natural sound. He will probably stay.

Afternoons- Randy Rhodes I think, Someone told me that he is the Engineer as well. He is OK, but Sounds a bit fake. He has a good voice if he would just be more natural. Toss up on this one!

Thats it... I think there are some part-timers but you never know about those.

What do you think?

Worst case scenario is that the format changes altogether. Let's hope none of the big companies gobble up 107.1, especially CC.

Yeah, if a someone buys them, my feeling is that they would go CHR, HOT AC maybe... Then say good bye to everybody!

South 107 just received a CP to go 100,000 watts using their tower just east of Rome.

Several random thoughts:

1) Question: Is "Woman's World Broadcasting", WTSH's licensee of record, a separate company from Southern Broadcasting (the company that used to own WNGC, WPUP, etc. before Cox bought them)? Or is it just a license holding company owned by Southern?

2) WTSH is not moving their tower, as they were planning previously. They aren't losing any existing coverage. I wouldn't necessarily categorize this as a "move". It's just an increase in power (which, btw, is contingent on WJZZ's move to their new stick).

3) If WTSH does get bought, don't count on a format change right off, if at all. We know how well Bull has been doing (not!), so they may try to give it a go in the ATL market as country. Heck, they're getting about a half-point share right now, with little metro marketing and iffy coverage, both of which would improve. A 1.5 share improvement could top the Bull.

4) Who would buy WTSH? Cox and CC are maxed out in ATL, although CC could do a swap for one of their weaker stations (not that it would make much sense). Lincoln wants out of radio, Citadel is about broke, and Cumulus and Salem are also pressed for cash (although Salem could simul The Fish on it and fix 104.7's coverage gap). The only buyer I could see would be CBS, or someone out of market like Entercom. I doubt that someone from out of market would enter this way, so scratch Entercom.

No more Country. Enough is enough. Plus it will be slaughtered by Kicks and Eagle.

Ummm... Eagle ???

OK, yeah I know. Just had to get my dig in. ;D

WTSH-FM is part of the Southern Broadcasting/Rome cluster, along with WQTU/Q102.3, WRGA 1470/WSRM 95.3, and WGJK 1360. Women's World is just a legal shell, a la. "WNNX LICO" and "Citicasters License" and "Atlanta Television Station WUPA, Inc."

I suspect the upgrades are in preparation for a sale (once the economy thaws out). It will be interesting to see who gets it...a big guy or a little one. There is no way a 100kW serving Atlanta will be run out of Rome, especially since it is a long-distance call on landlines (area code 706). Even if Southern kept it...they would have to move studios and sales offices to somewhere in the 404/678/770 area code (while keeping WRGA/WSRM/WQTU/WGJK at their present Rome location).

Remember...Southern just sold their entire Athens cluster to Cox. I suspect the company is liquidating...albeit at a snail's pace.

This radio station will "serve" Atlanta, judging from the proposed contour I see, about as well as 96.7 serves Atlanta.

Hardly, at all.

I agree that if WTSH tries to establish itself as an ATL station, they will need to move their offices into the ATL local calling area.

Looking at their contour, it's definitely better than Legend and on a par with Patron, but not as good as Viva regarding metro coverage. However, northern coverage--where the listeners and money are--is much better than Patron.

Clayton, south DeKalb, Henry, Rockdale, Lake Lanier, and south/east Gwinnett would be left out by WTSH. Patron leaves out north Gwinnett, Forsyth, Lake Lanier, and north Cherokee.

Suffice to say that urban would not be a good format for WTSH....but then again, CC has Latino on a station that misses Hall County and large portions of Gwinnett.

Question: Could Cox buy WTSH and not consider it an ATL market station? Or would there be too much overlap with their ATL signals? How does the rule governing ownership limits work? It looks like they could bring WTSH back as a sister station to WNGC--maybe even simulcast. What is the current rule regarding simulcasting and city-grade contours?

"WTSH. The Tush. We're always behind you."

WTSH will not be on par with El Patron. WBZY city-grades almost all of Atlanta. WTSH will city-grade virtually none of Atlanta.

WTSH will not be a factor in the Atlanta ratings. It very well could show up but will not be a factor.

The WJZZ move is 18 months away.

Precisely. There's not going be a big operator who'd waste time buying this signal.

Re: WTSH MOVING TO ATLANTA?

Why did they change the city of license? Aragon is actually further away from Atlanta than Rockmart. Anyone know why?

It was probably because in order to show there was a need for a power increase, they had to tell the FCC that poor Aragon had no radio station. Susquehanna did the same thing in order to move 100.5 from Anniston to Atlanta, telling the FCC that College Park needed a station. It makes no sense, but it's the FCC.

It makes more sense than WCNN still being licensed to the city of North Atlanta, which was dissolved in the 1960s. I remember when the GDOT scraped "North Atlanta" off of the exit signs for Ashford-Dunwoody Road.

I sample both stations online, usually during the Moby morning show. The fact that both stations use the same imaging, meteorologist, etc., you'd think that both of them are sister stations right now!

Kristen Charles was let go just before Thanksgiving, and Randy Rhodes I have no idea what happened to him,he must have gotten the boot when Kevin and Kristen went to afternoons to make way for Moby.

I don't see South 107 moving the tower closer to the Atlanta market since you already have 107.1 out of Gordon (Macon) and 100,000 watts out of Columbus at 107.3. It suprises me that they got the FCC approval to go 100,000 watts. Even thought the tower is not that high, it should be a pretty strong signal coming out of NW Georgia. I wonder what Southern Broadcasting plans to do with the new signal 104.9 out of Plainville (Rome/Calhoun), GA?
