WTSM 93.5 : Current Status

So, why does the CDBS say "APPLICATION GRANT RESCINDED", as of 5/11/2007?
ooooh ... so does the status for the WVRR move.

If the grant has been rescinded the application has been denied or if granted, permission to move has been revoked, if I understand correctly.

OK - Admittedly, I'm not necessarily the sharpest knife in the drawer, but what the heck does this mean?

I wonder if that's standard when a property changes hands? I also wonder if the new owner has to resubmit if he still wishes to move the stuff?

Sounds like something the man should be asked...

Sounds to me like the CP grants got to the finish line before Great Eastern did, CC got nervous about having to build and run two stations in a new market if Jeff didn't get there, and had the CPs tabled until closing time. ;)

Sort of history repeating itself as WKBK-AM 1290 started out it's life as Springfield VT's original AM as WNBX. WNBX moved to Keene in the mid to late 1930's, and was WKNE-AM for many years. Now Springfields original FM station is following the same plan, albeit quite a few years later.

Looks like the CP has been updated, according to Radio-Locator:

Construction Permit Granted June 08 2007
Construction Permit Expires June 08 2010
Last FCC Update June 08 2007

Understand the business logic of this, but somehow it's not right that the signal gets to remain dark for over a month (and counting at the moment).

Seems to me if you've got a CP in your pocket to move elsewhere, there isn't any concern that you need to maintain a broadcast in what will be a dark signal anyway. Wasn't it supposed to change frequency too? (My memory's kinda bad on this at the moment.)

Especially if the move is imminent, just waiting on a paper jam.

WVRR is going from 101.7 to 101.9 from the WEKW-TV tower in Walpole.

So what is the status on the signal and move at this point? Of course the big question is where will the stick be located? Any ideas?

Could it be that this whole thing could end up with a 'for sale' sign on it?

Realistically, a new signal with city grade in Keene would only work if the station was actually staffed....doesn't sound like that will be in the cards unless there is a real commitment to a new station in Keene.

Rumors persist that it will be a News/Talk simulcasting some content from WTPL in Concord...

If you mean WTSM, it's moving to West Hill, along with 97.7. So on West Hill you will have 93.5, 97.7, 98.7, and the translators on 105.5, and 106.5

I heard that it cant be placed on West Hill.....too many antenna's on that tower

That's right. In fact when WSNI changes COL to Swanzey it will diplex with WINQ on West Hill because there's "no room at the inn" to hang any more antennas.

Regardless, the bottom line from this observer.....and trust me....I just observe....I really don't see why someone would put forth the effort to create a new signal in Keene......find a tower to be on....and simply simulcast a Concord station.

Isn't Concord too far? I thought the FCC had some sort of funky rule regarding distance for programming. I dunno.

In my opinion....if this is going to be a 'closet radio station' without a local programming and sales staff.....be looking for a 'for sale' sign on the closet door before too long. If they think that they can generate sales from the Upper Valley...that would be a laugh....unless they have some seriously dedicated sales pro.

Too bad really....it would be great to have another serious owner in Keene. Right now Saga has a Monopoly. Wasn't there a second signal as well...any word on it?
