WTSX now classic hits

Tuned into what used to be "Fox 96.7" WTSX out of Lehman Township and heard that they are now simply "96.7 the greatest hits of the 60s 70s and 80s" playing more 70s and 80s rather than 60s, but I don't care it sounds good for now. This is the first classic hits station for the Stroudsburg/pocono area (since 99.9 the hawk is more classic rock and 105.3 has a bad signal)

Sounds like a blend between a classic hits and oldies format. So far sounds good. I wonder what kind of an impact will the new WTSX be with the ratings for the Pocono region? WSBG has been slipping in the ratings and I know this cannot help their issue. Also with them, the auction block is the order in coming weeks. You kind of wonder about these things huh? Nevertheless, a new fresh signal will be a good welcome in the Stroudsburg area.

It appears by that by the map Stroudsburg is right on the fringe of local/distant. Since these maps are not always accurate, how far does WTSX go with a listenable signal?....Anyone ride out on I-80 and see how far east and west it goes?....I know it must have issues to the east since the new WKLV-FM gets out quite far and have pulled in a near perfect signal just past the I-80/I-287 interchange (have not tested the signal any farther west).

Their signal is actually very strong in the Stroudsburg area. They were one of my presets even when it was the Fox (I preferred them to SBG) and I can tell you their signal starts to fade out past Blakeslee/476 to the west. I was even able to pick them up all the way south west in Allentown with a portable radio a few weeks ago. I think they will impact the ratings of the pocono stations, as they don't have that pre-made playlist of songs being replayed 20 times a day.

Warm's signals been deteriorating so I'm listening to WTSX from now on.

WARM's signal has been deteriorating because Cumulus laid the local chief engineer off in November and, apparently, nobody has replaced the tired tubes in the transmitter...assuming, of course, that Cumulus even approved the purchase order for the tubes! Currently, Cumulus has a single engineer, based in Allentown, who has to cover everything they own from Binghamton to Ephrata. And he is a computer geek, not a transmitter guy.

Horrible audio distortion, reduced power, and severe negative carrier shift make WARM downright unlistenable nowadays. Eventually, the transmitter will fail due to neglect and WARM will be consigned to radio history.

It's a sad, sad end for this area's proudest radio station.Thank deregulation and corporate greed for that!

So WTSX could be "The Poconos New and Best Variety!"  If I was an employee working at WSBG, I would be highly concern with this new signal in my neighborhood.  But then again, there is not much to lose with WSBG. Their ratings are near rock bottom anyway!

And that, my friends, is what happens when a greedy company run by a bunch of fast-buck artists buys a local radio station and runs it into the ground. Nassau's going belly-up...and that can't come too soon. Now...when will it be Cumulus' turn?

I NEVER listen to SBG, but when I tune to it just to see how bad it's gotten, it's the same horrible songs repeated DOZENS of times each day. Poconos best variety my ass. I've been listening to the new WTSX ever since I found them Friday. So far, I've only heard a few songs played twice which is very good considering I have my radio on almost all the time at my house. They have a very wide playlist with songs I haven't heard listening to WARM, WOGL, and even GEM104. In addition to having no commercials at the moment and branding themselves as "A local station for local people" I can see a lot of people switching to them (of course as soon as they hit the seek feature on their car stereo)

Exactly which, if any, ratings book will WTSX consider their 'home' book?

Reason I ask is that this skeptic (26 years of radio vintage 'skeptic') has heard innumerable debuts where the signal puts out a great first impression, then eases up on the throttle. 10000 songs in a row .... commercial-free Summer .... we've all heard these things. In come the people to 'streamline' that initial clamor, and things become a matter of which brand of bottled water you prefer.

Am not saying that WTSX will be planning/doing this syndrome. Just sayin' that it's the traditional pattern.
