WTTA's "News Central" To Shut Down

At this writing (Wednesday afternoon, March 7th), the homepage of FTV Live.com is reporting (I'm not a subscriber, so I only saw the headline) that WTTA-38 will shut down it's local news operation.

In a 24-hour period, WTTA owner Sinclair announced that three local news operations would be closed down. The others are WNYO-49 Buffalo and WVTV-18 Milwaukee.

I have not been able to find any other news stories about WTTA's newsroom shutdown, but stories on WNYO and WVTV point to March 31st being the last day for local news at these stations. I suspect that will also be the case at WTTA.

Lastly: With so many local newsrooms throughout the company having closed down recently, and announcements within a 24-hour span that three others will soon follow suit, how long will it be until "News Central" itself is shut down??

Dumb idea from the beginning. What a terrible broadcasting company!

WTTA never saw anything close to ratings, usually a .3 or .5 being beaten by Bay News 9 at 10 o'clock and of course Fox 13 which usually gets a 5 or so.

Will they continue jamming Mr. Hyman's commentaries into the eyeballs of adisinterested and possibly hostile demographic of women 18-34?

Thats the dumbest and useless segment on the entire newscast. They should get rid of him first. I actually some what liked WB38's news cast for awhile back when they had it mixed into NewsCentral and it was an hour. But its went to hell quick and we lose another local news cast but oh well we still got Bay News 9 and FOX 13 at 10 o'clock! :)

This newscast was one of the worst I've seen. They mainly focused on national stories and showed segments that Tampa viewers would have no interest in seeing whatsoever. The production was choppy, the graphics for the weather forecast were old, and it was basically a total disaster in the end. I give them credit for at least trying their hand at a 10 o'clock newscast and trying to compete with Fox 13, but I think that station has already established a name for itself. I can't imagine any other news operation being able to compete with it any time soon.

The only station to go head to head with FOX 13 and make a dent was UPN44 back in the day with their old 10 o'clock newscast. But again we are left with one broadcast news at 10 o'clock but if you want something different then you got Bay News 9 on cable.

They were never trying to COMPETE...

But their purpose in creating the cast was not to compete with 13. It was done
to create a platform for "The Point" and Sinclair's attempt to create a newscast that mimicked Fox News Channel -- never mind if it was compatible with the demos of the station overall.

Re: They were never trying to COMPETE...

True and an extra revenue source as well.

Re: They were never trying to COMPETE...

Fox News is successful for one reason. They live up to their name. The have the best foxes delivering the news than any station has. CNN has a few, but at Fox, there is not a dog in the bunch....
