Could be grate a new spanish format in Philadelphia, WEMG 1310 is simulcast from Orlando,WJNC 1360 is a weak signal and WNWR 1540 is only 2 hours in spanish

How about a full time Italian language station for the large Italian population in the tri-state area that was never serviced properly??

WEMG

I bet that WEMG will be originating Spanish programming locally shortly. They were just bought by Davidson Media Group. Nearly all their stations run some sort of Spanish Programming including WSPR 1270/Springfield-MA and WKKB 100.3/Providence-RI. And They have a couple non-Spanish Stations including WXCT 990/Southington-CT which is News/Talk and WAKX 102.7/Naragasset-RI which is Portugese. They have some goespel stations, but Philly doesn't need another. Some like WXCT and WSPR are programmed in house. Others are leased out to local business owners to server the non-English Speak portion of the US Population. Davidson Media Group Website.

Re: WEMG

Davidson Media Group is thinking to keep the WEMG Programing as well as it is.
All personnel keep their position

Re: WTTM New Format Italian, No bussines

Philadelphia Population
12+ : 4,334,000
Black: 19.4%
Hispanic: 4.7%

A Solid Spanish Program can get share up arround 2.5 ratings
Italian format is not Media Industry bussines

WHAT???

What are you saying??? The German, Italian and Polish peoples make up over 40% of the metro population. Irish and English make up 20%, but their main language is English. French, Arabic, Indian, American Indian, Portugese, Greek, Asian, Russian and other Slavic ethnics make up the rest, and as you stated, "quoting from R&R", Black and Hispanic account for about 25%. So if my math is correct, where are the German, Italian and Polish full-time formats.

Re: WHAT???

Dear God I agree with the Triple K. While the Spanish format is a hot thing right now... CC has reportedly seen a lot of growth with it in markets with larger hispanic populations. I just dont see it working in Philly. What more is that you cant say that the Italian Population is not good business or whatever you were trying to say. Most ethnic people in Philadelphia spend money... and their money is as green as everyone elses. I don't see ANY ethnic based format working with a population as diverse as this city.

And secondly Joseph PLEASE try and spell better and use better grammar. Its impossible to take you seriously.

Last time I checked, most German- and Polish-Americans were, at minimum, 3rd generation English-speaking Americans. Aside from folk music, what would you program for them?

Many Hispanics are 1st-generation or 2nd-generation Americans, if you consider that Spanish is the main language of Puerto Rico even though it's in the USA. Language issues are a bit different there.

One representation of language demographics would be to find out how many churches in the Tri-state conduct their services in the various languages we're discussing.

I would think most Italian-Americans in the Tri-state are, similarly, 3rd generation or greater, with fewer speaking Italian only, although RAI, the Italian public TV/radio entity, does show up on a fair amount of cable systems around the region.

I think they should develope a format for pets. There's over millions of families in America that have dogs and cats....and not one station in any market is covering programming for our pets. They don't speak a language of any sort, but they can listen and relate to the music by barking or purring.
Gallons and gallons of Purina dog food and cat chow is sold in retail stores everyday, which means their has to be a market for our friendly pets.
They have acute hearing, and still not one station out their beside the one on the internet has devoted any type of programming devoted to our animals.
Maybe WAMS or WPEN 950 fails at sports... it may be an opportunity for them.
What are your thoughts on this.

I leave WMMR on at home for my dogs. I think they like Preston & Steve and then Pierre's soothing voice.

I used to leave KYW on for my parakeet. He eventually learned to sing the "Ten-Six-teeeee" part.

I also left pages of old Inquirers for him to (BLEEP) on. Roger was well-informed on current events, but still couldn't quite figure out how to avoid "the other parakeet" as he flew into the mirror ...But, at least his head was smooth :)<P ID="signature">______________

Why not combine both formats?

There are so many illegal people of Spanish descent in this country that we could adopt THEM as pets and program stations to THAT demo. :)

(Now...let's see how many dolts take this post seriously.)

Re: WHAT???

Hispanic buying power has been growing rapidly. According to a recent report by the Selig Center for Economic Growth at the University of Georgia that estimated disposable income, Hispanic buying power will total $923 billion by 2008

The German and Polish formats are all in Chicago and Milwaukee; the Italian format is verrrry big on Federal Hill in Providence.

And, most of that discretionary income is spent on those gold crown air fresheners on the dashboard and those dogs whose heads bob up and down for the back car windows.

Que rico!

I thought the University of Georgia was an agricultural school.

I think there is a syndicated program for animals called
Animal Radio?

I have seen ads for sales people in R and R for it.
A vet might be a good host for an animal talk show.

People with pets would call in for that..
