WTTN-AM, Watertown to move to Columbus, WI

Submitted by: Mark Heller, WTRW, Two Rivers.

WTTN-AM at Watertown was granted a construction permit to move to Columbus, WI

and increase it\'s daytime power to 4,700 watts (non-Critical Hours). The

station will continue to operate at 1580 KHz, now with a directional array. The

power increase was made possible with WONX-AM in Evanston proposing to move to

Carol Stream, and their amended application to 10 KW opened an area where

Columbus could improve their coverage towards

Racine and Kenosha Counties. Daytime only. Station is owned by Good Karma

Broadcasting.

It's too bad. WTTN-AM has been in Watertown since 1950. However, for the most part, I think it's been a tough road for the station since the FM was moved to Madison quite a while back.

The bottom line is that Good Karma wants to move WTLX/Columbus to Monona (Madison). It can't happen until they have a station to replace it, hence the WTTN move to Columbus. Really has nothing to do with serving the community better, or better coverage, or anything altruistic.

Plus, keep in mind that the WONX deal is far from done. The Kovas folks were denied their application to move WMCW (which needs to precede the move of WONX), and more than likely will try to have the frequency re-used there instead of deleting the license, especially in lieu of how they acted in their last app, that was kicked by the FCC.<P ID="signature">______________

Re: WTTN-AM

I think the WONX issue is a done deal.It should be approved around September 1st, accordingto the FCC.The only issue is whether to allow 1600 to move to anothercommunity, which seems unlikely as the Weston permit hasbeen dismissed and they seem to have allowed Baxter, MNto get the Weston frequency at a high power, too.
