WTVH Axes Maureen Green

Granite's WTVH/Syracuse axes it's most senior talent, 22-year-veteran Maureen Green.

This, following the departure of her 5/6pm co-anchor/news director (yes, anchoring and ND), the recent departure of the morning/noon anchor, and a handful of reporters leaving or being fired.

Oh, and the new news director? The ND/main anchor from Granite's Binghamton station is dividing his time between there and WTVH. A few days a week here, a few days a week there. That doesn't look very promising.

I think it's time to take bets on the exact date WTVH abandons news altogether. I'll put my money on February 29th. It's right after the end of the book, and it's a Friday. And as anyone who's ever watched Office Space knows, you always fire people on Fridays. I almost want to guess December 31, but there just aren't enough rumors flying around town yet.

It all comes down to money. Perhaps Ms. Green was making too much green and the pencil-pushers figured they could replace her with someone from a smaller market station willing to work for less money. Loyalty doesn't mean a damn thing in this, or any other business, anymore. Good luck to Ms. Green trying to find another job in broadcasting if she stays in Syracuse. She would be better off trying her luck in the private sector doing PR work.

Wow they fired her?! I always have liked Ms. Green, I remember watching her when I lived in Ithaca and enjoy whenever I see her again. I wonder if WSYR or WSTM would scoop her up. Coming from the company who destroyed mega #1 WKBW this is not surprising...

A long time ago I did an internship at this station back in the early 90's. This station makes the director of the news shows be the technical director too. They also do not have any cameramen operating cameras on the set. They use the automated kind of cameras. They have one floor manager to make sure things are operating well and 1 guy in the control room operating all of the cameras with pre-set framings and operating the teleprompter at the same time......I would hate to work there.

I interned back in the days of Ron Curtis, Bob Kirk, Liz Ayers, Maureen Green, and Tracy Davidson, Lynn Huston, Marti Skold, Scott Atkinson, Tony Rizzo, Donna Speziale (RIP), etc.....back when Meredith Inc was the owner before Granite destroyed the station. They had new ENG equipment, good and talented photogs, experienced reporters, Good on air staff, all willing to teach a snotty little college student like me. ;)

I was an intern at WTVH also in 1991 and '92. I worked the weekends, so I didn't work with Maureen directly. I did meet her a few times. She was always nice to me. In the past year, I have been chatting with her on the 6:30 WTVH chats. She was very friendly to everyone.
I'm sorry this had to happen to such a nice lady.
