its weekday lineup!...Most of you already probably know this..but here it is....
Bob Connors (same)5:30a-9a
Glenn Beck 9a-11:40a
Paul Harvey 11:40a-12p
Rush Limbaugh 12p-3p
John Corby 3p-6p
Joel Riley 6p-9p
Sean Hannity 9p-12a
Coast to Coast--George Noory 12a-5:30a

Unfortunately, the news at noon hour gets blown out (actually one of my favorites, a daily must listen)...Rush goes live, which should thrill his ditto-heads and does eliminate the embarrasment of "breaking news" airing one hour late on Rush's show....the only other thing that stands out is Hannity will go against himself on tv with Wtvn's re-air of his show...also, i am not a big Riley fan...but good luck to him, nonetheless...

Columubus, React!

Good to see Coast put where it belongs. Although a fourth hour of the popular Corby would be better to cover all of PMD, Riley stays put 7-10, and Hannity 10 until Coast starts at 1am.

Of course, this completely kills my plans for Newstalk 1580 WFAQ with Ingraham, Hannity and Savage! Damn!

How long before Hannity starts encroaching earlier into the schedule?

Make no mistake... NO mistake. Bruce Collins knows exactly what he is doing. Collins probably came up with a programming schedule that would launch WTVN to #1 when he was like 10, or something.

There's no place for Hannity earlier on the schedule than at 9p. They are never going to get rid of Corby between 3 and 6 because he is #1 by a lot! Joel has been nothing but going up since he started. Even though Hannity is competing against himself on TV, i'm sure they are quite happy being on 9p to midnight in market #38!

A noon news block is a relic that isn't valid anymore. Good to have Rush on live and Corby starting at 3. Hannity will be staying at 9, I'm sure, for the forseeable future.
______________

Isn't Columbus #35? Are there other market ranks out there than what RadioandRecords.com uses?

Nope, Columbus is now #38 according to Arbitron.

That's a shame. I always enjoyed being able to listen to the entire 3-hour Glenn Beck Broadcast.
Other than that, I like it.

That's interesting. They must have put the new definitions in place recently.

Previously-#35 Columbus's population grew by about 20,000, but three of the four markets that were immediately below it grew enough to leapfrog Columbus. Not surprisingly, these were all sunbelt markets -- Charlotte, Las Vegas and Orlando. There are an awful lot of markets wedged in that 1.4-1.5 million range at the moment.

In a year or two Columbus may get bumped out of the Top 40, which happened to Indy at least a year ago. Funny, Just a few years ago, Columbus was #32, now #38. (Though some of that was due to creation of a fe new markets and addition of Puerto Rico.)
______________

Wow, interesting indeed. I wonder if it has anything to do with the suburban sprawl into counties surrounding Franklin County. I'll tell you what though, my sister lives in Charlotte and there is no way they have a bigger metro than Columbus (IMHO). It's a nice town but Arbitron must be relying heavily on Gastonia and Rock Hill.

In specific, Rock Hill. :D The South Carolina suburbs of Charlotte have by far, last I'd seen, the most growth in the region.

It's what led news/talk WBT/1110 to buy an FM simulcast station, WBT-FM 99.3 in Chester, SC, on the southern end of the market. The problem is that the directional pattern on WBT's night signal cuts off much of the area south of the city.

Face it, the last 18 minutes of Beck is him basically goofing off and getting ready for noon to come around. Besides, most stations that carry Harvey cut away at that time - it's in Beck's format.

I think the changes are good and are just what WTVN needs to push them back to the top. Now, if only some of the weekend crap could go away...

I certainly hope that your "weekend crap" comment does not include Curt Boster. That show is truly refreshing, and I look forward to it every weekend. Totally different, and just gives you a reason to smile and enjoy life without worrying about the drama of the world.

Smile, or wonder just how many completely ridiculous and unimportant topics he can talk about or how much he can giggle endlessly about just about nothing. But it is a cute little show. Oh, what do I know? *shrug*

Not to compare the 2, but Jerry Seinfeld made a living by doing a "show about nothing." I think he turned out OK.

Actually, I think almost 100% of that sprawl would still be in Arbitron's Columbus market, e.g. all of Delaware county. (Interesting how Delaware county keeps getting touted as one of the ten fastest-growing in the U.S. They neglect to mention that Delaware's growth rate (%) reflects a FAR lower increase in the actual number of residents than the same rate would reflect for a large sunbelt county.)

Also, I had an impression of Charlotte that was similar to yours -- sure didn't look bigger than Columbus. Of course that was over ten years ago for me. And it sounds as if you and Old Akronite have pinpointed Charlotte's growth areas.

Charlotte vs. Columbus

Oh, there is some growth in the North Carolina part of the market. In particular, Concord is growing out like the proverbial weeds. But the 77 corridor south of the NC/SC state line is your typical "hypergrowth we're trying to deal with" area.

When I was last there, the local paper out of Rock Hill SC was full, that one day, of stories about new housing developments bringing tens of thousands of new residents to formerly rural areas, and stories about a proposed new Wal-Mart near a new upscale shopping center. And that was just in ONE DAY'S paper!

It's no wonder that WBT was forced to buy an out-of-market rimshot FM that hits the SC suburbs. 1110 AM is but a rumor after sunset there, as its 50,000 watts are being directed away from South Carolina.

If you don't get down to Rock Hill, or out to Concord, Columbus looks bigger.
