WTVN's Two Chucks and a Chick

It's a sad day when Carla Wrenn is the best thing on WTVN.

I know all the regs are getting their vaca time in before the book,
but between Chuck Gilespie and Chuck Douglass - I'm speechless!

CG sounds like a former TV weather man trying to sound intelligent, the the sing-songy delivery is vapid and thin, and has me begging for Conners to return.

And CD - I know you post here man, but you're trying too hard. The 80's rock jock sound is well, better left in the 80's.

Harsh, I know, but I just couldn't sit on my hands any longer.
Are times that tough in radio that there is absolutley zero new talent up and coming? Spare me, I think I know the answer.

You were correct in posting.
This week was God-awful.

WOW.... Train Wreck!

I know that 33% of the wtvn listeners have had the knob their radios set on the channel so long, that the rubber band on the linkage that moves the dial up and down has corroded and its now fixed in place... Or the can't walk across the room to turn down the volume... and those vacuum tubes just won't fail... they are stuck listening.

The rest of us have moved on.

I completely disagree about Chuck Gillespie. I think he has a smooth, pleasant delivery...and I find him really informative. I think he's a perfect fill-in for Bob Connors.

I tend to agree. I was even noticing that he seems to have Bob's little quirks, inflections and so forth down almost dead on. Seriously, if you gave Chuck Bob's baritone voice, especially about 10 years ago before it began getting a little gravelly, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

mercifully, corby returned today. Chuck D was starting to get on a roll by yesterday but could use some seasoning, maybe some weekend shifts. Chuck G came across better on tv (at least to me) than on radio. Just too syrupy a sound. My wife likes Carla's act, an enthusiasm i can't say i share.

I re-evaluated. I was wrong on one count: Chuck G. isn't that bad, he was growing on me.

When he fills in for BC, does he have to do it from Florida via ISDN? ;)

Chuck G. is better than the filler weekend host that WTVN employes. One of them used to be a career junkie.
Willcall, you are priceless :p Just keep pressing your blinky buttons and work on that GED. Look people, These guys are serviceable fill-ins. They do a good job while the starters are on vacation. If they were any better than what they are, they would be full time at another station. Come on, lighten up and enjoy the radio.

i listened to Carla for a bit yesterday and refreshed my memory on what it is about her that irritates me (or irritates me most). she came out of the 10 am news break and yacked a while. in fact, she yacked right to the next break at :20, told the 7 people on hold to hang in there she'd get to them out of the break, and then ran her yap out of the break for about two minutes before she finally got to a call. at that point i punched out and didn't come back until three when corby came on.

Image99Seven,

This is coming from a person who like to be called a ditto-head. Or like to listen to Mike "Mein Kampf" Savage on the lowest rated station in the Columbus market. Anyway I'm in the IT business diagnosing PC hardware issues. There is some downtime waiting for the software to diagnose the problem.

Carla is one of the worst on WTVN. WTVN just uses her as a last minute filling host. Reason why, she is cheap. CC is cheap. Plus her Sunday Show is filler. Sundays 7PM-10PM is the worst time slot in radio.

How about WTVN airing Columbus Crew games? Are they desperate for revenue? Their sales staff can't find new sources of revenue? When I listen to WVKO I'm hearing new local ads every time I tuned in.

Or you like to listen to talking points from a certain Doctor Shopping-Oxycotin abuser talker. Or you like listing to drug addicts.
