WTWO, WAWV signals off air

WAWV and WTWO in Terre Haute/Farmersburg have been off the air for most of this week. According to a video posted to Facebook on Thursday, WTWO news anchor Tom McLannahan said that a Nexstar tower climbing crew would dismantle the antenna from the tower, replace it with a temporary antenna for WTWO only. The climbers had arrived in Farmersburg and were on their way up as of 2pm Thursday.

The stations apparently went off the air late Tuesday, and remains off at this time. The last update at mid-day Friday suggested WTWO might return to the air over the weekend. With the temporary antenna, WTWO will broadcast at reduced power. WAWV will remain off the air in the near term, but ABC programs will air on a sub-channel of WTWO temporarily.

WTWO staff suggests that when the saga is over, Nexstar might take down the old channel 2 bat-wing antenna from the top mount of the tower, and put a new diplexed antenna at the top of the tower.

I thought most stations had a direct feed for the cable and satellite companies so that most could still watch the station

That is true in large markets, but none of WTWO/WAWV's statements suggested this was true for them. Not even for the major cable carrier in Terre Haute (which I think is now Charter?)
