I was looking through the Broadcasting Yearbook from 1980 and noticed a listing for WTXN AM 910 in LaFayette. Does anyone know what happened to this station? Did it eventually become WTLM 910 (now WZMG) in Opelika?
There was this radio station that went by the name WAPI. It was the pride of the Heart Of Dixie and it was owned by Alabama Polytechnic (Now known as Auburn, WAR EAGLE!) The COL was.... well, it didn't really have a permanent home.
If I remember correctly, WZMG (or whatever the call letters were back at the time) was an AM daytimer on 1520 with COL of Opelika (where WTLM resides now) when AM 910 was operating in Lafayette.

I was under the assumption that during this time AM 1520 was still WAOA... Anyways, though, does anyone remember the format of WTXN? I am familiar with LaFayette since I'm only 25 miles south in Auburn and based on the area I figured it was either Country or R&B, or a MOR format.
It was WTLM from 1994-1997; the WZMG and WTLM calls swapped in 1997. In '91 it became WDAK but I don't know what the format was there or back in the WTXN days.
I lived in Auburn from '87-'88. The station changed its COL from Lafayette to Pepperell (not even a city 25 years ago or now), and for a while was an oldies station. IIRC, they had a pretty extensive collection of 50's-70's hits, and would play almost anything you requested.
