Does anyone know why this station isn't on the air ? It's been Silent for a long time .... are they trying to sell it or just let it be deleted ?
 
I remember one of the reasons its conservative talk format failed was that the AM plant was a mess and the FM translator had bad coverage (area and range).

IIRC the previous owner had let someone put a cellular antenna on the AM tower, and besides the interference it was causing itself the installation had also boogered some things up, and maybe lack of maintenance.

I'm wondering if the current owner is stuck with a messed-up AM plant that may not be worth fixing, even with a 50kW day/45kW CH license.

Back in the WGUN days it was the best-sounding AM on the dial besides WSB and maybe WCNN, all the way to sunset.
 
Based on the silent date of August 2nd 2021, which is 6 months and 4 days ago, and no silent STA extension request showing yet, I think the station should technically be facing deletion.

EDIT: The FCC's STA grant wasn't until October, so they have 6 months from that date to request the balance of the year.

and if theyve had no sta since, if they file for another before the the 12 month period from first date of silence is up... theyll get their peepee slapped with a fine and be allowed to rectify the issue

Thanks Paul....there is chance that the guy who owns it now, doesn't have much Radio background and is in too deep to dig out. Is there anyone who has any close contact with the Owner ?
 
You could get in touch with Kim Peterson "The Kimmer" - he might know. He's a longtime air-personality in Atlanta. He was at 106.7 and made the move to TZA after 106.7 sold. He still does a podcast and is on FB as well.

WGUN would have been a great callsign for conservative talk. But those calls were gone by that time, despite being on 1010 for a LOOOONG time. They used to call themselves "the 50,000 Watt Big Gun".
 
The FCC won't delete before 12 months of silence. It's actually federal law. Unless a station can demonstrate on air operation within 365 days, the license will be deleted. While technically they should file a STA extension after the present one expired, the FCC typically just extends the STA. They are pretty sympathetic these days to AM stations.
