WTZN imaging

Wow, if this does not sound like a ratings gold mine, then I don't know what does! The boy's tree house analogy was so damn bad, it was pathetic. The uprising of Pittsburgh's man station, is this anything like the million man march? If so, exactly how many men will actively listen?

It's amazing how a station that so few listen to gets talked about so much...

It always happens when formats get flipped or an existing format underachieves.

I just hope their imaging is really great. After all, it doesn't matter if the content is great or if it sucks. Listeners don't tune in to a station because they like the content, they only tune in for great slogans and jingles!

I don't see why they even bother spending money on people like Paulsen or McIntire. All the station really needs to become a ratings powerhouse is good jingles.

For those scanning the dial for something to listen to, ear catching imaging could grab attention.

I can obviously only speak for myself, but I can honestly say that I have never tuned in to a radio station because I heard some snappy sweeper or jingle...

In this day of digital tuners and as many as ten pre-sets on most car radios, do you really think all that many people slowly rotate the knob on their Atwater-Kent searching for something to listen to? Given that an average song is about two and a half minutes, while a jingle or other imaging piece lasts a few seconds at most, even someone who is scanning the dial has a far greater chance of hearing something other than a station's imaging as the tuner zips past the station.

But, if you're running a station, and want to rely on imaging as your primary method of attracting listeners, go for it. That will mean your station won't find enough new listeners to pull any kind of ratings, which increase the chance that someone else will soon be running your station, and they might put something on the air that's worth tuning in to.

Not that imaging is a bad thing. I am an amateur gourmet chef, and quite good at it if I do say so myself. I appreciate that good garnish can make for a more attractive plate, even if it can't compensate for a bad tasting entre. So, if you want to concentrate on sonic parsley for your radio station, more power to you. Just don't expect it to accomplish anything other than impressing other radio pros.

I do station imaging for a living, and you are all right. A "snappy sweeper" won't hold them..but neither will a bad signal, or poor audio or crappy programming. Imaging should be the "cosmetics" that makes them attractive to those already listening. I only heard WTZN on a brief ride through Pittsburgh..(BTW I really love that town) and it sounds like they are just doing it for the sake of breaking up the monotony that is thier programming..and WHO is that doing it?

out of the three bumpers they have for "johnny mac"(are you trying to create your own nickname?...thats not usually how it happens) i like the one that makes fun of gay people...its also a good thing if you like that ac/dc song...
