WTZQ Joins Hit Parade

WTZQ-Hendersonville, which was Timeless Favorites, briefly picked up MOYL after Timeless' demise, then switched to John Rook's new Hit Parade service. The format features Top-40 hits from the 60's thru the early 80's and has notable jocks, Wink Martindale, Larry Lujack and Ron Foster. They are now the only station featuring an oldies format in the Asheville/Hendersonville area, and maybe in WNC.

They've been oldies since last year when Curtis bought them. The fact that WQUT has a translator there is part of the reason Classic Rock didn't work.

I wonder if WTOE (Spruce Pine) has gone with "The Hit Parade" -- since they are co-owned with WTZQ? With the demise of "Timeless", WTOE went to some type of AC format playing currents and little if anything prior to 1980. This post gives me hope that the AC on WTOE is only temporary.

Not sure what's going on at WTZQ now. I tuned in last night at 6:15, and they were back to playing the MOYL service. I was really enjoying the Hit Parade, especially being able to listen to Larry Lujack. Anyone for a game of musical chairs?

Whether a station has gone with Hit Parade since the service is now dark. They pulled the plug on their service a few days ago and the system is not dark.

I hate hearing this. The people I went to the mountains with never turned on the radio and I didn't think to ask about WTZQ when we were going through Asheville. We were so busy talking I just didn't think about it. Naturally, if the radio had been on we would have noticed the signal going bad and had to change stations.

I'll say this. When I was in my motel room at night radio was just a wasteland. Sure, one station played some classical and some jazz. Another station was classical when it wasn't talk. But the rest was garbage.
