WUAM Translater now simulacating YNN on 106.1 in Albany

Been listening a bit..not a bad signal for only 250 Watts, appears to be in mono! What a waste though, should be airing something other than Channel 9 audio.

Ah, yes... was about to make a thread on this (was driving through Troy earlier today and heard this on 106.1)... did the move to Albany complete? I saw that in the FCC database just a while ago (upgrade from 10W to 250W, move COL from Troy to Albany)

And yes, how about putting satellite Urban AC, Classic Country or True Oldies (currently on WVKZ/1240) on 900? I talked about how WVKZ should have gotten a translator (right before WPTR flipped to oldies, actually)... but I still think YNN on AM 900 is a waste (no ratings? even Urban AC or Classic Country would be a better decision ;))

To me, it's a complete waste to have the 106.1! AM 900 is just fine for what it is, and I'm sure has NO issues reaching anyone in the core market (during the day). Now if 106.1 is filling the AM gaps after-sunset...then maybe it's worth something. (but probably not) :-\

I'm suspecting that Anastos is trying to sell AM 900/FM 106.1... or could a music format be landing on the AM/translator combo in the near future? Don't have a clue, tbh...

It's a shame that this not bad signal for it's power is being wasted. It would be a nice fit for True Oldies.

If they are going to stick with this AM/FM simulcast they should do it right. How stupid do Anastos and YNN think area listeners are to listen to a TV signal 24/7 without any live cutins not even to give the lousy temperature? Every half hour or so YNN does a Community Calendar crawl. On radio it's just boring background music. Who in their right mind wants to listen to this? Why can't YNN ask the on air anchor to tape the weather conditions and play it over the community calendar bed? I'm ready to call Anastos Broadcasting and complain if it would do any good.

The calendar crawl is random length, because the segments are pieced together with random lengths of news segments, there is a varying space to fill at the end of each half hour. Sort of like a "backfill" used by automated radio stations. Therefore if this portion happened to be shorter than normal, any voice fill may be "lopped off".

They still could find a spot to mention the temperature twice a hour maybe more. The Community Calendar would last long enough for that.
If they're going to keep doing this stupid thing they should at least make it more radio listener friendly.

The 106.1 translator is another way to help curb pirates on that frequency too... what are some other good blank frequencies for translators? 97.5 is rebroadcasting static 90% of the time it's on (WNGN translator)... what a waste ;)

Some other frequencies (such as 89.5 (but it'd have to rebroadcast a noncomm AM or FM), 98.7/98.9/99.1, 99.9, 106.9 and 107.3) could be viable translator frequencies in Albany... any other possible translator frequencies?
