THE NEW WUBA 104.5 RUMBA'S GETTING 3 MONTHS ON AIR AND CC IS LOSING MONEY

How do you know they are losing money???

Now, they probably are losing money, but I'm sure they expected that. I think they're in this for the long haul and might lose money for a while. Eventually, they will get in the black, and they will be the established "Spanish Language" station in town. Trust me, they won't be losing money then.

You may not like it, but believe it or not, CC doesn't care about you and what you think. They are a business. They obviously see an opportunity to make money, and they jumped at it.

Deal with it. Most of the rest of the FM band here in town is in English, listen to them.

Not really, most of the rest of the FM band here in town is EBONICS. Now you deal with the facts, typical liberal no nothing.

Ah. Nice to see you're not only anti-Hispanic, but you're anti-Black, anti-liberal. It's the hatred trifecta. Plus, you're anti-intellectual (otherwise, you might have actually learned how to spell "know-nothing").

I don't like Rumba, either, so I don't listen to it. I don't like the "black" stations, so I don't listen to them. But the biggest problem in Philadelphia has always been a lack of variety, with one format or another tending to dominate and a few other stations doing the same exact thing. Any form of variety is more than welcome, because it encourages other stations to try something other than the same three formats.

So I'm a liberal, huh? My voter registration card says differently.

Not that I'm really all that worried about what someone of the likes of you thinks about me. Why don't you grow up and get a satellite radio? Or would that go against what "Mr. Big APD in Harrisburg" stands for?!?!

Here in town? Aren't you in Harrisburg? This is the Philly board.

And people scoff when I say radio is really dominated by righties. All this rant about the liberal media but righties work in radio, program radio, sell radio, manage radio and own radio. Conversations in break rooms are clear proof. No wonder talk radio is mostly "conservative." No wonder it's an article of faith in the biz that liberal talk can't work.

No, it doesn't work because the more left-leaning audience isn't as prone to listen to the same type of talk programming as conservatives. You can't just take the conservative talk format and introduce a liberal talker. Different group with different tastes, expectations, etc. Hardly a conspiracy.

About RUMBA 104.5, though I am no fan either (and don't appreciate CC's force-feeding of Spanish formats to answer a question that nobody asked), I must point out that it'll take a few books before any judgements can be made. That means at least a year to see if it catches on. Too early to draw any conclusions. If, in September 2007, the commercial load is as light as now - it's a goner.

I don't like rumba either, but lets be fair. They havn't even had a book to adjust advertising rates for yet. So ofcoarse there losing money on a something new(not proven), and charging minium rates for advetisers.

Besides, like said above it would be atleast a year of bad ratings, and losing money before rumba would flip. Would any company flip a station after 1 book? I guess it possible, if a station went from top 5, with a 4.0 12+, to last place with a .5 rating.

Correct me if I am wrong, when the troll Jim Keating took the advice of Jerry Stevens and flipped the popular WCAU-FM from oldies to disco in 76' they went from a 4.2 to a 0.2 and stood below a 1.0 for over a year. They never rebounded or made it past a 2.5. Keating buffaloed the top brass to keep that lousy format. WPEN, had the whole ball of wax but blew it, instead of keeping the oldies since they were the only game in town when Solid Gold Radio died backstabbed the audiance and flipped to MOR. So I guess a station can stay a particular format even though they are rock bottom, unless its some sort of Rock, then they must flip or else . To add to this, WCAU-FM sounded so much better with the Radio Einstein, Diamond Jim at the helm, it was a disgrace to flip them to disco, they sounded so much better than the trash on 98.1 now-adays.

Spanish Market in Philly's Metro-area is a Top of 5.5 Million per Year. The question is:
What was the lowest income per year for WNSI SUNNY 104.5?
or any English Format

If You know the answer then You know the future of Rumba 104.5

I know radio is a business, like everything else, money rules and is the bottom line with a company. BUT...could it be that the Head Honcho of the Philly CC Cluster, being Hispanic rules the roost, the top brass is scared to ruffle his feathers and be called politically uncorrect. There is plenty of truth floating around the market that CC flipped Sunny to pacify his interest in supporting his people with an FM outlet tailored just for them, no matter what the outcome of dollars and cents may be, after all, we all know the staggering truth about Y100's demise....just my thoughts...
