WUBE 50 years

I got a call on the request line from a fellow wanting to do a history of WUBE. He has done some amazing legwork. The current programming team there more or less told him to "suck it".

Got any WUBE stories? Please post them here with any audio and photos. Grover says he doesn't care. Lets show that the radio community does. Let's help celebrate this amazing radio accomplishment.

Yep. Trying to pull it all together. This guy is a listener and great radio junkie collecting the history I (we) never did. It's a great story. I'm looking for crappy old Kent Burkhart photos and airchecks.. Dive in!

WUBE 50 Years

I want to thank Marty for the kind words. I am working on the WUBE 50th anniversary project and would appreciate any help with the time frame April 1, 1969 to present. Names of dj's and others and when they were there. Thank you.

Marty, I have about 12 hours of WUBE taped with airchecks when they were programmed by Drake. They are complete and also scoped.

Thanks jcr. I have almost all the names that you have except Chuck Lewis. Did he go by that name or have a radio name? Also I did not know that Ted McAllister did news there in 1970. Also I know Jerry Anderson worked there in 1970 as a weekend jock and also helped with WCXL FM 105 which later was WUBE FM in October of 1971.

jcr Marty Thompson did work at WUBE FM also in 1985. H e went by the name Kent Burkhart. Mike Chapman had him use that name as a rib toward the famed program consultant by that name. Also Dave Boone worked there from 1975 to 1978.

Also Mark John Holliday came back in 1978 and stayed until 1990. Also Ron Lawson 1977-1990 John Summers 1985-1990 Bill Whyte 1983-1992 and 2004-2008. Duke Hamilton is still there 1977 present. Also Paul O'brien 1972-2014. Jackie White 1984-1991. There was Jon Braude 1973-1981 and Chris Robbins 1973-? and the first female dj at WUBE Joanne Grueter who also worked in the news department.

Chuck Lewis was the name he used, primarily did weekend 12m-6 am. Also Drew Vogel was known as Jim Beam on the air

Tom Gallagher did work there in 1979-1980, I have a small aircheck of him and Herb Day after Tom had worked a double shift on Labor Day 1979 and Herb was the all night guy

And Steve Sommers worked there briefly in 1988 or 1989 after the original Jake the Snake DJ left WUBE for the Beaver 96.5. Steve assumed the identity of Jake the Snake on WUBE

Jake the Snake's name was Jake Kincaid. A guy named Stan Warren aka Lee Warren I seem to recall worked there briefly maybe around 1972, he had worked at WCLU in 71 and later at WKRQ in 1974

Thanks jcr for all of the info. Lee Warren returned in 1978 using the name Stan Warren. He was there until 1982 doing weekends. The Jake The Snake a/k/a Steve Sommers did not last long. WBVE The Beaver put a cease and desist on that because Jake The Snake Kincaid was on WBVE. Steve then went back to his radio name he was using and that was Harley Davidson.
