WUBE Airchecks Drake Era

I have several hours of airchecks from WUBE in Cincinnati when Drake was programming in 1967-68. They include Bwanna Johnny, Wayne Shane, Gary Corey, Big Al Law, and several others. All on 7 in reel actetate. Does anyone have any others from this period and this great station?

it is my belief that WUPE airchecks are pretty rare. The station was on 1230, 1000 watts days and 250 nights... Drake had insisted that he was mislead about the station signal after it failed. (Not sure how he was mislead... I mean, the thing was on 1230...) But if you could post some of them someday, I'd sure like to hear 'em.

WOW! You do have a rare treasure there! One of the reasons that the format was not successful, I'm told, is that Drake really alienated what was a group of very close radio professionals (Bwana Johnny was forced to be Johnny Johnson, for example), plus the true Drake format was never adhered to, but a lot of experimental programming strategies were tried (mini-newscasts every few songs,
plus the Drake jingles were not used for a significant part of the Drake era).

I have a clean copy of the WUBE Drake package, if you want it. I also have an hour on cassette of Cincinnati radio recorded in June, 1969, with bits of WSAI,
country WUBE, WOXR, WING, WMOH, plus WNAP and WKLO-FM on skip.

I also have airchecks from many of the pop/oldies stations from the 80's and early
90's.

Speaking of WUBE, one of my favorite jocks was Wayne Shayne. I've subsequently
heard him on WAPE, WGCL, and WZUU, but have no idea where he is today.

He also used the name "Sundance".

If you can get in touch with Ted McAllister (WDJO 1160 or E. Alvin Davis and
Associates), he may have some old WUBE stuff... he was a big aircheck collector
in the 60's.

If we can trade some stuff, or you are looking for anything else, let me know.

Thanks!

Phil Wayne
