WUBL-HD 3-WGST

I listen to WGST 640 am on WUBL HD-3 Channel especially at night when 640 drops power and it sounds terrific. I enjoy Coast to Coast and some weekend shows. My question is they never promote the HD Signal on WUBL-HD-3 and they really should since HD Radio's have come down in price. If HD is gonna make it why not promote it. Just a thought.

I thought they used it as part of their top of the hour station I.D?

Good question AMLover!
Isn't it interesting that an industry whose product/expertise is advertising can't formulate a campaign to generate one iota of interest in HD Radio.
What has happened to this business?? Used to be we could sell ice to Eskimos........

They have to mention it in their legal ID by law.
Many times they mumble it, but they do get it in there.

A legal ID does not promote the channel. It's just an ID. I mean why don't they run on air promotion's sending listeners to the HD-3 Channel and promote HD Radio's. Unless you are downtown or on the southside you can't hear 640 am at night. WUBL-HD-3 is clear as a bell.

Clear Channel FM stations have been running spots for HD radio. But it's been a losing battle. So few listeners are coming onboard. If the FM's can sell commercial time, they probably feel the money is more valuable to them than running non-paid HD spots.

But when you have WGST playing 2 or 3 PSAs during a break...

In other news, the FCC just authorized a 6dB (4x) increase in broadcast power for HD signals with no app necessary. Stations could also apply for a 10dB increase (~12x increase?).

Does anyone have any idea how quickly stations are adopting the 6dB increase?

Well, you still can't make chicken salad out of chicken scratch.
