WUFC-AM 1510's Only Local Show Gets ONE Caller

I had WUFC-AM 1510's streaming audio on this afternoon while I did other things from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm. That's the only local call-in show weekdays on the station. I've been led to believe that there's some activity going on in the sports world involving Boston franchises. Yet, despite constant pleas for people to call in and frequent repetition of the phone number, they got ONE and only ONE caller during that period.

What if they gave a talk show and NOBODY called? Buck Henry on Sat Night Live (transcript)

>>Tonight's topic is "Federally Supported Municipal Bonds -- Yes or No?"..[a long pause, Frank takes a deep drag on his cigarette, the phones do not ring]...Here's another issue that may interest you: "Soviet Communism -- Let's Give It a Chance"!...Remember, toll-free! Totally free! You pay nothing here. We pay for the entire call...."The Ozone Layer -- Let's Get Rid of It"!

Because WEEI and their huge radio network beats them all!

It does go with the topic, which was they only got one call. I gave an example of a comedy sketch imagining what would happen if a talk host got no calls.
Buck Henry kept trying to make the show even more controversial--still, nothing. The original post was with all this sports action here, why only one
call to a 50,000 watt station.

>>despite constant pleas for people to call in and frequent repetition of the phone number

>>>Call me now at one of these toll-free numbers: Eight zero-zero, five-five-five, three-three-one-zero -- one-one, one-two, one-three, one-four, one-five, one-six, one-seven, one-eight and one-nine!
[Henry repeats the number multiple times as telephones in front of him lay mute.]

I find his posts to be quite entertaining even if they don't always tie-in with the topic at hand. But in this case, I thought it was a great tie-in!

If, OTOH, you ran a ratio of callers to listeners, it would probably be close to 1:1, which would be in the running for All-time best performance by a talk program.

Sometimes, you have to look at the bright side.

TSB

What does 1510 care?......As long as the checks clear for whoever is buying 3PM to 6PM?

Is it the consensus opinion that NBC sportsradio is paying 1510AM to air the network?

Usually network programs are bartered. i.e....provided free, as long as the station runs the spots within the show(s).

I am wondering how 1510 AM can even make enough money to pay their (ghastly) electric bill. As a sportradio listener 1510AM would be my LAST choice for sports programming. (after WEEI, WBZ-FM, ESPN on 850AM...why would I ever go to 1510AM?)

Are we due for a format change?

Somehow they're paying for it via NBC and/or Yahoo; they're able to put one or two local shows on (despite the absence of callers) and don't forget that WUFC carries the American League Champion Boston Red Sox!

But surely the new owner of the Globe is happy that a 50,000 watt station is carrying los juegos de las medias rojas de Boston!
Vamos Medias Rojas!
