WUMB continues toward AAA with some former WBOS staff

If it means less folk, they'll see a lot less of me (including membership).

I think that $250k CPB grant (that started this whole process) helped determine that WUMB doesn't have to change their programming all THAT much, it was really more about the branding. Non-listeners had an idea in their head what "folk radio" meant and it wasn't what they wanted, but it also wasn't really quite what WUMB was playing, which is borderline Triple-A a lot of the time.

Their latest changes began a couple of weeks ago.

Longtime morning drive host Dick Pleasants was moved to afternoon drive.

Guest hosts from Greater Media stations have been filling in on morning drive, a different one each week. The online schedule says "Guest Host This Week..."

Last week it was WROR overnighter (and former WBCN overnighter) Albert O. This week, it's longtime WBOS (and occasional WMJX) host George Knight.

I wonder who will it'll be next week?? Loren & Wally? David Allen Boucher? Jay Severin?

It's only just about a ten minute walk across the Morrissey Boulevard footbridge...

George is sounding really good doing the WUMB format this morning.

Sounds like a good candidate for the slot to me. I wish him the best of luck there!

I would love to see WUMB go the way of WXPN in Philidelphia or the Current in Minnesota.

I'm not familiar with the Current, but I know WXPN, and I think that's what they are aiming toward, but doing it gradually, hoping not to completely turn off some of their longtime former folk format audience.

I agree. I listened for a while this morning, and he sounded right at home with the music. I've posted here before that I think George's talents are way underused in the current iteration of Sunday Morning Over Easy on WBOS, err, Radio 92.9, so here's hoping this gig at WUMB becomes permanent.

With the exception of a few longtime mainstays who they need, the place is somewhat of a revolving door. That, among other reasons, is why I wish him luck there.
