WUNI-TV Analog 27

L

I finally got around to installing my analog-to-DTV converter box on the table-model TV in the kitchen (my main TV is on overpriced Comcast cable). Just for fun, and to see if the amplified indoor TV antenna helped, I checked analog reception with the box turned off, and there was no signal from WUNI-TV analog channel 27 in Woostah. Their DTV on channel 29 came in fine. So is channel 27 off-the-air or at reduced power like WFXT?

I believe they are gone. I'm checking Channel 27 (analog) and find no sign of them. I have a feeling that yet another analog station has gone silent. Their other station (Channel 66) is still on the air. Channel 38 seems quite weak this morning. I have a feeling that by the first week of February, most analogs will have shutdown or severely lowered the output power. Probably the stations want to save costs of running their analogs at full-power. Hmmmmmmmm..........

In their latest Digital Transition Report, Entravision stated their intent to continue operating a full analog signal on WUNI until the shutoff date, so either a) the missing analog is temporary, 2) they had a problem which forced them to shut down analog early, and haven't filed notification with the FCC yet (I think they have 30 days to file), or trés) they're operating rogue (or not operating, in this case).

I think analog WYDN may be gone as well. I can no longer receive them on analog cable.

No, WYDN's analog is still on, as of yesterday. Surprisingly, I actually got a good color signal from them in Manchester, NH on my Watchman (soon to be useless on 2/17/09 :'(). I'm amazed that WYDN was able to move their digital to Needham, considering the Worcester COL. There is no way that their digital signal will cover the city of license. Then again, look at WMFP. The analog is barely noticeable in Lawrence, their COL. I guess "Arizona Waivers" abound, especially now with digital. No doubt when all of the dust settles after 2/17, expect mass FCC filings for substantial power increases.

Analog channel 27 was on the air as of Sunday and it seemed as if it was at full power. I have noticed several analog stations broadcasting rather weak. WEDH channel 24 (Connecticut Public Television) in Hartford was off the air for a time during the weekend but is now on, however very weak and almost "pulsating" as it broadcasts. Also, channel 38 in Boston is weak and just this morning I noticed that WSBE, channel 36 in Providence seemed weak. I'm guessing that some stations are trimming back their power of analog stations as we get closer to the February deadline. However, I have not seen a noticeable increase in the power of their digital equivalents.

27 analog has been off and on for the past few weeks. It's on now, though it looks like it may be at lower than normal power. I wonder if at least some of their outages have been storm related rather than DTV-transition related.
