WUOW-LP R.I.P.

Turns out that SUNY Oneonta won't be building a second FM station after all. They've returend the CP for WUOW-LP (104.7), to the FCC.
Why they wanted a second station in the first place is beyond me, considering they already operate WONY. The question now is, could another non-profit in Oneonta apply for this frequency right away? Or would they have to wait until there is a new LPFM window? (If that ever happens). It's too bad this CP went to waste. It could have been a new independent community station. Something that area could use considering most of the radio stations in the market are now under one roof.

You would have to wait until a new LPFM Filing window opens , and no one really knows when that'll be.

I don't believe this is exactly correct. I know it was reported they turned in their CP. Looking at the FCC records, it looks as if SUNY Oneonta had the station licensed and on the air. BLL-20050322AAI was the license filing in July of 2005. It looks like the licensee did not file for renewal this year. The Commission canceled their license on 10/4/2006. SUNY Oneonta filed for renewal on 10/5/2006.

Ok, maybe the reason of their license disappearing is not as the original poster stated. However, to get a new LPFM or NCE FM.. you hafta wait till the next filing window...
