WURD 900

Makes the stsation sound like more than 1 kW, and gives the 105 watt night signal a chance vs. CHML.

DSPX Mini AM with a custom preset.

I have a second preset for nighttime low power use that I'll activate as soon as I can pull a closure off the phasor controller so the processor can switch between the 2 presets. I call it: "Smash and Grab".

It's LOUD!!!!

Cool! I also like how you guys have Rob Redding on the station, he is a great host!

WFLN/WURD has always protected a station on 900 that's on the Delaware peninsula which pre-dates them by a few years.
The story I got was that they never had to actually run the third tower because they were able to make the necessary protection with just two towers. The present towers are in the same alignment as the original two towers (dead north/south 0 degrees true). The guyed towers were replaced with self supporters because Avis wanted more rental car parking. I believe that WURD was also able to let out its pattern in the early 90s because the clear channels were broken down (the "Rio" accords) and it was no longer necessary for them to protect Canada so much any more. 900 kHz is a shared Mexico/Canada clear frequency, which meant that under ther old rules the WURD 25 microvolt daytime contour could not touch any part of the Canadian border. These days that border protection no longer exists. This is also why they now have night time.
The night pattern is a smashed down circle north and south which pushes out to the east and west. Next month I plan to begin using their pre-sunrise pattern (they can run their day pattern at 125 watts) between 6 AM and local sunrise. Since the day pattern runs gain towards Center City as opposed to a null, it will help.

However, you ARE correct that what the FCC does frequently depends on who asks-and how well 'connected' their DC law firm is. Look at 100.3, who tried in vain for over 20 years to move to Roxborough and was denied every time-until they were sold to Radio One. Then *POOF* all of a sudden it's granted. I call this "FCC Physics"-it's the same physics that required a 100 watt UHF LPTV to have 100 KM spacing where a 5 million watt full power TV only required 92 kilometers.

I remember that certain Canadian/Mexican shared clears such as 730, 800, 900, 1050 and 1220 limited US daytimers on those frequencies to 5 kW maximum. Was that more of a nod to Mexico,
and the superpower stations on those channels?
