but the on air signal needs to be improved. I know they have to protect the other stations but if WURD wants to be THE black talk station in Philly, they need a better signal in the metro area.

They have a great signal compared to the original pattern and power of the old WFLN....They can be heard as far away as the Jersey shore, past Newark in DE up to Allentown and out to Reading. That seems extremely good for a station that should be 1kw-d during the day. Something is fishy....

At night, forget about the signal because its not good.

As the son of a a "father-of-Philly" that grew up in the 70s, I more-than-just-memember Philly's rich history for "radio" AND "Black radio"... Nearly FORTY YEARS BEFORE 1340's trip to "another calling", I remember hearing GREAT Black artists on that frequency. I can't sum up here how great that was... WFIL, WHAT, WIBG, Hi Lit (and others)--GREAT MEMORIES there and the Jersey Shore... 'Glad I never heard 900 WURD and their "spew" back then... Or 1450 in Chicago AFTER the years that established them as "hip"... SORRY this nonsense has somehow become necessary within our society.

"Black Radio" seemed to "go the route" of WURD (Philly) and WVON (Chicago) in recent times (what in the Hell motivated that?)...Unfortunate, 'cause in an earlier era--those frequencies were interesting and enlightening for us "paleface" folks tuned and into experience an AWESOME culture these stations provided! SORRY their "change" needed to happen in the contemporary political sense. In 1970, I was HAPPY visiting my Grandmother in Landsdowne, PA to barely hear WHAT playing my FIRST exposure to those AWESOME Black groups that gave your city it's music legacy. I came from the white midwest and LOVED hearing that station. I truly believed that I learned much from that listening experience--THANKS 'ole WHAT! I will NEVER forget those whose skin is darker than is mine (but I wish I could forget that my skin was lighter)--IT MAKES NO SENSE... Maybe this "patetic" new venture called "Skin Radio" can make their meger contribution to this mindset and turn some "minds" several decades later in the '00s.

Many of us live well beyond your "large-market paradigm"... We understand the "general" state-of-affairs (we see it on FOX) :D ... We may not like it ('cause we don't HAVE to live with it), but PLEASE don't make it our ONLY memory of "radio".

Would you kindly post a link the station's website?

Thanks!

The OTA signal is supurb and strong.....it covers the areas this hate spewing machine wants to rile up....in a 60 mile daytime radius...

Although I haven't done a lot of listening at night to WURD, I would venture a guess that their night signal is not much worse than WHAT's was in their desired audience locales. With WHAT operating NDA @ 1kw on an incredibly crowded and noisy local channel, 1340, and WURD operating DA @105W with their main lobe aimed directly at North and West Philly, I would venture they are covering predominantly the same audience.

Funny thing about WURD's 900 kHz frequency...it's a clear channel but NOT a US or Canadian clear...900 is a Mexican frequency, home to XEW in Mexico City. FCC data shows it running 250 kW into a single half-wave tower. That signal must be a monster....and up here you'll usually hear CHML Hamilton Ontario behind URD at night...

Here in Allentown CHML dominates...its signal pattern appears to throw a lot of RF our way. At least it's a decent, traditional full-service station!
