While driving late one night and hitting the "seek" bar on the car radio found it's way to WUSF. The extremely articulate Bob Seymour was playing marvelous, non-mainstream jazz. So refreshing to hear on-air people who love the music and are into it to the point where the music is actually the star of the show. Likewise for Bethany Cagle with the classical genre. You can hear her love amd knowledge of the music. She also has a pure voice and diction that is near perfection. The audio quality on USF is incredible as well. Just wanted to pass on kudos.

Yes, there's often too much conversational focus on commercial radio, while the non-comms toil away and continue to churn out some very listenable, and in some cases (WMNF?) unpredictable, material. WUSF is a class(ical) act.

I'm reminded of my time as GM of student/community station WCBN-FM (Ann Arbor) in 1980-82, when our News Department (about 100 strong!) emulated NPR with a daily half-hour local newscast. One day (I was unfortunately absent) Noah Adams showed up to listen in person! The station format was officially Freeform, although "Jazz 'Round Midnight" provided totally non-mainstream music from 10 to 2 nightly. We started holding an annual on-air "fun-razor" due to a meager University (of Michigan) budget, and in our third year the little 10-watt station raised over $15,000 in 88.3 hours.

Commercial radio was boring and uninventive then, and remains so today.
