WUTY-LP in Worcester

When WUTY switched to 97.9 the new frequency was unlistenable in most of the city even though it was an upgrade in power. If anything it was far worse than the original 102.9.

i reached out to Ernie Floyd the station founder and he told me they were trying to find a location for their antenna on one of the DT office buildings.

I was scanning the dial yesterday and they were loud and clear. I had a clear listen throughout the city. He must have finally found a home for the antenna!

Listening online right now to two guys looking forward the Patriots-Rams game, the one that was played last Thursday. Obviously a recorded show, although they're asking for callers. I don't know whether this station routinely airs reruns, but sports talk shows are almost never suitable for use as schedule filler in this manner unless the whole show is devoted to interviewing athletes from the past about stuff they did long ago.

Enter WUTY into radio-locator and click info;
"The station may be operating under a construction permit".The map shows the antenna
to be north of Front St and west of Mercantile
St. Zooming in a bit and there's a spot for
"WCUW-FM radio station".
Speaking of Worcester and sports, "Woo Sox"
baseball is due to start in April. Polar Park
being constructed and hopefully the pandemic
may allow games/fans.
I believe Nash Icon 98.9 is doing games (weekdays; weekends on The Pike 100.1)

Unlike MLB, minor league baseball teams can't survive with no fans or limited capacity. I have a feeling that if any of the International League's cities or states is still under ultra-restrictive pandemic guidelines in March that the countdown will quickly begin for another dreary non-season of "alternative site," behind-closed-doors practice games in lieu of an IL season. The Pacific Coast and California leagues will also be in serious jeopardy.

With the South generally looser in its pandemic response, maybe the Texas and Southern leagues can play with fans -- but would MLB want to do minor league baseball on such a piecemeal basis? And how would it work if a California MLB team's AAA players are playing make-believe ball in the secret location while its AA guys are getting real games before enthusiastic paying customers in COVID-skeptical Amarillo or Midland?

The antenna should be on the T&G Building, along with WCUW, and the Cumulus STL gear. Should get out pretty well at 100 watts.
