Don't know if you've noticed but the last analog VHF has gone digital and on RF2. How did this happen? I thought all the low band V channels were to be re-allocated. So, why couldn't WSB get their old channel back if they are not being re-allocated? Hmm.

WSB would prefer its RF 32 as UHF signals presumably travel better. WUVM, 3,000 watts on RF 2 (virtual 4) knows their OTA reach is limited and relies on cable/satellite to expand their broadcast footprint. WGTV and WXIA are transmitting on VHF (RF 7 and 10 respectively; WXIA is simulcast on RF 25.6) as well as three low power stations in Atlanta proper doing likewise.

So, are you saying the low band V channels are NOT being re-allocated???

WUVM applied to transmit on RF 8 in 2018, and that expires on April 1 of this year. So unless that move happens between now and then, no it won't be re-allocated. The only other station broadcasting on low VHF is WTHC-LD/channel 42 (RF 3, Tourist information) and apparently they haven't been re-allocated.

Thanks for researching this.
I don't think they're on RF2. I got that info from Wikipedia which may or may not be correct. From what I can tell there is nothing on RF2-6 analog or digital.
So, they may already be on RF8. I know WGTV has moved to RF7. Not sure why they did that.

According to Rabbit Ears, WUVM is still on RF 2. WTHC-LD is on RF 3. Insofar as full-power stations, nothing is on RF 2 to 6.

A displacement amendment for WUVM to move to RF 8 which expires in July may not be accepted as moving to RF 8 would pose interference issues. The amendment expires in July.

yes they are on RF2

They tried to get RF8 but had to change to RF2 due to interference to a full powered station. As a low powered station they are not allowed to cause more than a specific amount of interference to a full powered station. Since they were going to, they had to switch to an available channel which 2 was available.

VHF Low is considered the interference pit. It also requires a huge ass antenna. That is why most stations are on UHF (14-36) as they dont require a large antenna. VHF Hi (7-13) would have been better but penetration of walls is not the best. Thats why Tegna's NBC (WXIA) which is on RF10 has a simulcast on WATL 36 (RF25) for folks with UHF only antennas

WUVM just filed a license to cover for RF2 a month ago so that is where they are staying
The RF8 application got superceded by the RF2 amendment
