WVAX 1450

Having read much concerning the dawning of Charlottesvilles newest AMer
WVAX 1450 in the VARTV and BTV/SVRTV web sites, I decided to visit C'Ville and
give it a listen. Well what do you know! Dead air. The FCC CDBS records show that as of 1/26/2006, WVAX had neither applied for let alone been granted a "License to Cover" nor "Program Test Authority". That would probably explain the lack of any dicernable signal. It may behoove the owners of these sites to try to obtain information concerning technical matters such as this from the FCC and not "The Daily Regress". The link is as follows, just type in the call letters.

Look, I get my information from VARTV, not sure where he gets it from...but I also had a friend, who lives in Charlottesville proper give it a listen before posting on SVRTV...and he heard loud and clear "Air America Radio on Progressive Talk 1450AM, WVAX"...so, 2 days ago, they were doing something.

I can't help it if they decide to broadcast without the right permits or what not, I just post what I read from VARTV, who by the way, is a trusted website and Bob Corbin, the webmaster there, takes the time to check on all these stories. I know he wouldn't post something if it were true or the station wasn't up yet.

If there are any other questions or concerns that I might be able to help you with, feel free to email me at [email protected].

I had several readers comment to me that they were listening to WVAX. They WERE on the air, legally or illegally. There are many times the FCC website is not updated in a timely matter... could be in this case... who knows...

The Daily "Regress," as you call it, quoted the VP/GM (!) of Saga's Charlottesville cluster. Are you saying the Paper misquoted Dennis Mockler? Is the station operating illegally??? Maybe you should report them to the FCC...

You are absolutely correct in your observation. I live within site of the WQMZ-FM stick from which WVAX will be transmitting so this is no "I have a friend, who has a friend who heard somebody say" routine. It's NOT on the air. The local media most likely misinterperted whatever the GM/VP said. At present, WVAX is conducting tests much like WWLB (formerly WCUL) in Midlothian did long before it's Program Test Authority was granted last March. To the uninitiated, this could be mistaken for being "On the Air". The old fashioned way to find out would be simply to call Saga's Offices on Rose Hill Drive in Charlottesville and ask. 434-220-2300. It's in the phone book under "Eure Communications", the name of the former owner.

Bob is right....I searched back in the Daily Progress/Regress site and sure enough, it is right there. And I had my friend put the phone to his stereo, so I heard it....OK? Whether it is on the air legally or illegally or it is testing...it has launched. I stand by my and Bob's story.

Just so that you'll know, I took your advice, but waited until this morning (regular business hours). I didn't get to speak to the head honcho, but I did some answers none the less. In a nutshell "random testing". No launch date set. Thanks.

I was listening on Friday morning 1/20. They were on the air, loud and clear and sounding very smooth with no signs of being in a 'testing' mode.
I did note that it was 'The Stephanie Miller Show' airing during what was supposed to be the 'Springer' time slot.
