AHHH...<yawn>.....ANOTHER, can you say ANOTHER friggin' ROCK-based format.....Isn't THE BONE, The River, PYX, The "NEW" Edge,'EQX, Q103, and any others, god forbid, I missed, ENOUGH!?

Albany continues to add fuel to the fire that it's a BAD radio market!!!!!!!!

In other words.........................BORING!!! I'd be curious to see how satellite receiver sales are doing in the market!!!!

Why doesn't CC or Albany Broadcasting put a format on the dial here copying WKTU's dance format playing 70s disco up to today's dance music? How many more rock station's are going to flood the FM dial? A dance format exactly like WKTU's is definitly needed here.

I also forgot to mention, at least they didn't flip a station that people loved to the Jack format like they did in NYC & Chicago June 3,05. 88.3 was a college station if i'm correct?

Re: WVCR=JackFM, Alright!

Alright! Finally a station has a Jack style format here in Albany New York. 88.3's Music selection sounds great!!! They are now first on my preset. Any word if the company who owns 88.3 is going to get the copyright's to call it "88.3 JackFM Playing What We want"? Also they should really get Howard Cogan as the voice of the station. By having the previous one & still calling it the saint does not sound good. I really hope they keep it automated too.

Apparently not....It is interesting to see yet anoother Rock based format appear. WVCR does sound good doing this format, and it is a vast improvement over the previous Top 40 format. Plus there was a hole for a "Jack" type format, I guess...And even if there wasn't, WVCR is a college station, so ratings aren't an issue anyway. What is curious though, is why WVCR always mimics commercial stations, instead of doing a more traditional college radio approach, like WRPI...

I have to disagree...Albany is actually a very good sounding medium market.
People from the Boston market, have commented to me, how good Albany radio , actually sounds....

I guess that you are entitled to your opinion....

How about calling it Saint Jack? :)

You seem so elated, just like a nine year old child ripping open presents under the Xmas tree, at this prospect! Apparently...Santa chose not to bring you that IPod you had asked for. Well...there's always your 10th birthday...or next Xmas...whichever comes first!
I've jocked the Albany market...years ago when radio was "real radio". Apparently, you're either too young to, or have never been exposed to "the real thing" to know of any better. Sorry that you and your children will never know what they missed growing up in today's franchized everything world. Nowadays...you think you're getting what you want...but you're being duped by all the hype of advertizing to accept the cheapest product, at the highest fast-profit, they can shove down your throat. That goes for everything...not just radio. You've been "Jacked" off and dumbed down...and it's a damned shame that people like you don't know it...and will never know the joys of alot of things from the past when Corporate America did'nt control everything about our choices and our daily lives.
Don't you/people ever get tired of being lead around like sheep???

Years ago someone did! Bonneville flipped a successful AOR to "Disco". It gained almost immediate success...for IIRC, a rating period or two...and then??? I'm guessing that since they had few advertisers follow them through the flip...they initally did well due to the new sound in the market and the low spot load...just like New York's 103.5 WAPP "The Apple" when they switched to rock. My guess...Albany might be just as much as dance town as NYC is rock town, and hence the massive failure of NYC's JACK FM!!!

Disco 101....

I remember that misguided move...100.9-WWOM was the area's first tightly formatted AOR station, from late 1978, into early 1979, when it abruptly flipped to Disco. They had been soft rock through much of 1977 and 1978, before going full blown AOR. They were in competition with WQBK-FM, which in those days was an amazing progressive rocker. Chances are, that WWOM would have done very well, as a tightly formatted AOR station too....Unfortunately, it was flipped to Disco, before the station ever really had an opportunity to take off. This once again left the AOR position open in the Albany area, which was filled one and a half years later, by PYX-106, in September, 1980....

YUP!!! Right you are!!! Disco 101 WWOM...that, incidently, was easy listening (not soft "rock"), under the moniker The "W"onderful "W"orld "O"f "M"usic, hence the calls WWOM, before the flip to "Superstars AOR".
