WVEI Sold?

That will leave Providence without a viable sports station (I can't really count 790 the Score, which runs almost exclusive satellite programming). Will WEEI find another Providence affiliate? Might they try to convince Cumulus to carry their programming on 790?

When it was publicly listed in the ratings until last year, 98.5 The Sports Hub usually had well over a 2 share. I would be surprised if WEEI programming was still not made available on a Providence market signal.

Am I imagining this, or has WBZ-FM showed up in Providence ratings before? (Or still does but does not subscibe?) I know the signal isn't great in Providence though.

I hope you're right!

WVEI usually earns a 3 share in the beauty pageant numbers, which means it is probably close to triple that in key male demos.

WWKX would make a good home for a simulcast.

Would Audacy consider swapping the formats of 93.7 & 103.3 in Boston? The latter has a much better signal in Providence, it appears. 103.3 is also next door to 103.7, which is convenient.
 
Will Audacy be pulling out of Providence completely, though? I suppose swapping 93.7 and 103.3 would be best, but 103.7's signal does reach out well into Eastern Connecticut. I'd be interested in what they'll do with the other signals. The 102.7/102.9 would work as a nice combo. Or could Cumulus pick up 102.7 and simulcast The Wolf?

At my location, just off I-91 about 1/3 of the way up Vermont, I hear WEEI-FM at 93.5, 94.3 and 94.5 with no problem at all. Audacy doesn't own any of these signals. Is there any reason that one of them can't bring in the other Boston sports station and end this weird redundancy, or is Sports Hub not interested in exporting its programming to the hinterlands?

Since WVEI was Audacy's only Providence-market station, yes, the company is exiting the market completely.

106.3 and 102.7 could reunite, but hopefully NOT the Wolf.

Will the Red Sox actively seek another Providence station or does radio play by play even matter anymore?

To the Red Sox, it certainly seems to. I'd expect a new affiliate to be secured before Opening Day. I don't see the Sox behaving like the Mets, who killed off their entire radio network except for the flagship a few years ago.
 
I'm sure several stations in Providence would be interested in carrying the Red Sox. A few examples of dwindling interest in baseball play-by-play might be mentioned, such as the Mets. But I believe many radio stations in New England would find carrying the Red Sox a great way to score advertising. Following the Red Sox is still important to New England sports fans.

Folks above talk about how WBZ-FM Boston gets good ratings in Providence. But WEEI-FM, the Audacy-owned Red Sox flagship, is licensed to Lawrence MA and has its tower in Peabody, about 20 miles north of Boston. So that's why it doesn't cover Providence as WBZ-FM does.

WBZ-FM is one of the highest billing stations in the nation. It's usually around #5. WEEI-FM is usually around #15. That shows you how valuable being a sports station in Boston is! Sports is #1 and #2 in Boston radio billing by far.

And BTW, Cumulus-owned 790 WPRV Providence carries the NY Yankees.

790 has not carried the Yankees in a couple years now.

The Mets have one of the best broadcasting boots in the business on the radio. So I do not think they're ratings at dwindling, as you seem to think it is.
