WVIP Now Broadcasting From the Bronx, in HD

New Rochelle NY station WVIP, which had broadcast from a tower located over an apartment building in Yonkers, has made the move to the Bronx, according to Radio-Locator.com. This was also mentioned on a Tweet from Scott Fybush. The license for the new location was granted Friday. Their antenna now shares the same tower as WFUV, atop a building that is part of Montefiore Hospital, on East Gun Hill Rd. As much of their programming is aimed at the Caribbean community in the Bronx, this makes sense.
Also of note is the fact that they have switched on their HD signal. The HD3 is carrying sister station WVOX AM. WVOX is one of the few stations in the area to play standards and MOR music at night. But 'VOX has a puny signal at night. This could provide fans of this music willing to buy an HD radio an opportunity to get a clear signal. The HD2 for now is simulcasting WVIP.

To avoid confusion, I should add that only WVIP's antenna has moved to the Bronx. The studios remain in New Rochelle, together with WVOX.

Scott Fybush reports in his weekly column, Northeast Radio Watch, that this is the first commercial FM signal to move into New York City, since Z100 did so in 1983.
He also mentions that they are running their HD signal at the newly authorized higher power level. The HD2 will soon be used for leased time broadcasts.
On the air, the station is claiming they now have the potential to reach 4,000,000 new listeners.

I wonder if they will be selling the station as it certainly will be worth a lot more.

Good luck finding leasees for the HD2. Why would anyone want to lease an HD2 when starting an Internet station will reach more people? The HD2 won't be reliably heard outside the Bronx.
