WVIT-30 New Britain/Hartford, which was the first TV station to break into regular programming to report the massacre last December at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown (on a separate thread on this board is a link to video of WVIT's first news bulletin of the shooting) has today (March 27th) won a George Foster Peabody Award for that coverage.
Although the Peabody Awards in recent years have not been given out in specific categories, it is safe to say that WVIT won for local breaking-news coverage. The Peabody Awards, in fact, are considered in the industry to be even more prestigious that the Emmy's.
