WVKZ Went True Oldies Today

This morning I tuned into 1240am & i noticed they were playing september by earth, wind & fire which is weird for them to play. Then i went online www.wvkz.com and found out that WVKZ is now the home for Scott Shannon's True Oldies Format. I wonder what made them get rid of the 50s and 60s format? That was good.

This is definitely an improvement!! True Oldies has more variety including rare forgotten oldies. What WVKZ was doing before by playing dropins creating the illusion that there were live jocks doing actual shows was a farce. I love the 50's and 60's too but the old playlist was just too redundant.

The problem is...it is still on a grave yard frequency. Had they installed this format on 101.3 FM, they would have something and could probably with minimal effort take down WTRY. Even simulcasting on 1160 would be helpful. Come to think of it, there is a high powered FM in town now, that didn't even crack a two share in the last book. They should really start reviewing their options too....

I am very angered and disappointed by the change at WVKZ. I used to listen to them online. I loved the jingles, the people, and most of all, the music. Ernie Arnasto, you should be ashamed of yourself. You had a great thing going with your format of 50’s and 60’s music. But now, you’ve sold out. You caved to MR. Shannon, and now you’re just another Classic Hits station, playing 1970’s junk, leaving WEXT as the only decent radio station in the Albany market. I hope WVKZ fails miserably with this new format.

Quote from ChuckRoast: “I like 50’s and 60’s music too but the playlist on WVKZ was too redundant.”

MR. Roast. I understand that some older people like hearing obscure oldies on the radio. While I am not older, I, too, sometimes enjoy hearing obscure oldies. However, sometimes, I just wanna hear the same old moldy oldies that oldies radio stations used to play. Sometimes, I just want to hear oldies that I know and am familiar with. WVKZ was just the place for that. Now, thanks to MR. Ernie (I’m a slave to Scott Shannon) Arnasto, I’m left to look for a replacement.

If anyone knows of a hit driven, “Redundant” oldies station that streams online, please let me know. Thanks.

I often listen to the TrueOldiesChannel while at work. Scott Shannon has some fantastic oldies. Unfortunately the program gets clearance through ABC, and we know that ABC has pretty well tanked, thanks to Citadel. Scott Shannon can only prop them up for so long with no support system.

Loving the True Oldies Channel on 1240. Great to hear Scott Shannon's fresh mix of oldies. I was a fan of the old VKZ, but this sounds much better and a welcome relief from the tired list of oldies the other station plays over and over again.
